Here are some HQ pictures that I took. Background: My only other good pair of headphones I own are the Sennheiser HD555s which are the cheap version of the HD598s (very similar sounding).
Initial thoughts: I could immediately tell upon my first listen from on-board sound that these cans definitely need an amp to properly drive them, even though the volume goes up to a reasonable level, there's definitely a lack of any umph-factor.
In comparison to my HD555s, the K7XXs do not feel as open as them. Simple as that.
As for any rattling, I have tried this frequency test: http://picosong.com/5qgZ/
I couldn't hear any rattling at all at maximum volume provided from my onboard sound on motherboard (ASRock Pro 4). Feel free to request me to do any other tests but from 2 hours of listening to music I couldn't hear any problems with the drivers thankfully! I'll have to invest into an amp before I can really judge these cans, but out of the box without any break-in they already sound better than my 5 year old HD 555s so that's nice.

Stalastoh god I just did your test I can hear popping and a definite rattle at first and I'm even listening to them unamped through a measly soundcard.

StalastJust tried this, not sure if I can call it rattling its more like a helicopter taking off in the background... is this what people are describing as rattling? Im unsure its only in the left cup on that test at medium / highish volumes.
@Dark3ned Ah yes, im an idiot sorry been a long week ha that certainly is a funny coincidence :D

Hicks12Is it a coincidence, mine is like that on the left driver to? though I would describe it as popping (little bursts of air). This may change hopefully in a few days after use as the drivers are fresh.
