Zer0lagSave the money and try the k7xx. It is an excellent headphone and if you do not like it the resale value is excellent due to the limited nature of the piece.
guerilla_lawResale value isn't great in South Africa. There are only a few "audiophiles" here, mostly limited to the high end stuff at extortionate prices. Think Sennheiser HD600, HD700 double the current price on amazon at the cheapest. Randomly the HD800 is cheaper (R15000 around $1216 vs $1600 on Amazon) but that is just weird.
Don't even get me started on DAC's and amps for headphones or speakers. The only readily available DAC/AMP is the Denon DA-300. Nothing before that in price other than cheap 5.1 Samsung systems. After that is rack mounted studio and concert stuff. Don't even ask why. Seems the Gaming side of audio is more prominent than "audiophile" audio.
In other words if you have a low budget even up to $600 you are screwed.
Valensilius_ZephyrusThanks man. Clearly can't be buying locally. It's a pity Amazon is finicky about what they ship here as well which adds more problems. Anyway I was thinking of getting a nice dac/amp from here or ShezhenAudio directly.
FuzzI wish that was the case. Assembling an 02/ODAC would be easy in comparison to some other soldering, assembly work I have done recently. However the market here is not too interested in, I guess we could call it "Mid-Fi" to "Hi-Fi" quality audio gear. There are certainly the exceptions, such as myself, and the super high end studio guys.
However there is virtually no interest in almost any audio products that are not "gaming grade" or 5.1-7.1 systems made by Sony etc which are all pretty bad. This is further worsened by the lack of interest on the side of local stores (physical or online) to stock anything other than some of the most expensive hardware, such as the Denon DA-300 at R8500 ~$687, and the Asus Xonar Essence STU at R5400 ~ $437. Heck can you imagine a Audioquest dragonfly v1.2 selling for the equivalent of $277 instead of $148.
Mainly local stores focus on sound card solutions made by Asus or Creative, neither of which are as good as a similarly priced external USB DAC/AMP.
Any way I am starting to rant now, so I will end it here.
SynikI have not seen a flash sale for the X2 in recent months. there was a sale a while ago at $249 or somewhere around there, but never have i seen it at $230. In any event I didn't get the x2 at the time because I was short on cash.
