Isn't quite possible that they meant all 580 units would be in the warehouse and will begin to ship on the specified date? As in: Massdrop logistics folks gave the thumbs up to use that date as shipping start target, along with the quantity AKG identified would be available by that deadline... The items will be in the warehouse and will begin to ship on that date.
Put down your pitchforks people. Do you want headphones? Do you not want headphones? I'm not sure that something like this is worth getting emotional about and feeling betrayed over. I see a bunch of accusations based on limited information and subjective interpretation of that information. Am I missing some precedence? Massdrop and AKG aren't exactly fly-by-night operations, are they? I'm used to seeing deadlines and delivery estimates ignored on places like Kickstarter, but these guys seem to be pretty consistent about delivering products as described and relatively within time estimates, at least in my limited experience ordering from them... Am I missing part of the picture?

NeotribalI don't get why people are okay with missed deadlines. Don't set a deadline if you can't make it. Otherwise people might subjectively interpret that the given deadline was a lie to bolster sales. Granted stuff happens, try to account for that when you are determining your deadline date. If you feel it might be two weeks later than the time you would like to release something, keep the date at the later window. If it is finished early, fantastic.
People are most upset with the old shot clock trick. Time is running out, get your limited blah blah today! Only XXX available, call now to reserve yours. Any of those sales gimmicks. That is what i think is rubbing people the wrong way. It is the way they changed the terms of the sale after people entered into the sale with them. It is shady.
What kept them from going the other direction. A week from now the truck shows up with only half of the supply they ordered. Are people as okay with that. OOPS sorry guys, we dun messed up! Nope, that would fly like a lead balloon. So why everyone is so okay with them changing the terms halfway through, just because it is to our benefit?
List a new drop with the 420 extra units. That is what they should have done. Even if the end result is the same. It was weird that they didn't lock out the drop and came out with the info about the extra units like a day after the drop should have ended. Almost like they had knowledge that they were getting more a bit before the drop was ending. The way they did things is weird. We can't change the past but hopefully they will consider different options in the future for how to handle this sort of thing.

SirsmokesalottaThere was no "gimmick". They thought the order was 580 and it turned out the container had 1000. There have been several drops on these and one drop had 2000 units I understand. With every drop there is a time frame, that's how it works. I've seen the drop for the K7xx sell out in hours instead of days. This one is just extended because of the unexpected extra 420 available. I'm glad more folks can get a pair of these if they want. With enough of them out there, perhaps they will make replacement parts such as the ear pads more readily available. Personally, I think all the complaining boils down to selfishness or wanting instant gratification beyond what is reasonably expected or something. If you want your order in an hour then try Amazon's new service (you'll pay extra for it too). I think your making a federal case based on a strawman argument. Perhaps you should cancel your order too if you think shady things are going on.

That is the gimmick. The limited availability of things set to a specified time. You are right in that it means little to nothing in the grand scheme of things. I am trying to present to you why people are upset.
I am not going to cancel my order, i want my headphones. I will not hesitate to order outside of massdrop in the future unless it is an unbeatable deal. I am not really that concerned. Not my business. I thought that maybe someone at massdrop might read it and understand. To each their own. If you are okay with people telling you one thing and doing another then so be it. Who am i to tell you that is wrong? There is no recourse to this. There is no wrong doing by massdrop. It is just the way they handled this. They won't know that people don't like this sort of stuff if people aren't vocal about it. If massdrop was my site, i would want to hear feedback, positive or negative, so that i can improve.
I don't care if a billion people own these things, that doesn't matter to me. I bought them because they are supposedly a good set of headphones for a fair price. On the same token i don't feel any more special knowing i am sharing the experience with others. Doesn't impact me either way.

SirsmokesalottaAlright, I got your point. You just sounded like the rest of the complainers in it. I apologize for any misinterpretation. Oh, I think the folks at Massdrop are getting every word. I wouldn't worry about that one.

jayrcIt is not I who needs to calm down. I'm not fussing. I'm just sick and tired of the ludicrous complaining. I say you either want the cans or you don't. If you are that upset about the tiny delay or other folks also having a chance to get a pair now instead of waiting another 3 months, then cancel and order something else from someplace else. Simple as that. As someone else mentioned, the complainers should be inviting their friends and such to purchase as well and the drop would have been over days ago.

skpetic1I get that massdrop isn't the quickest way to get things. What drew me to the site is that there seems to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic people replying to these drops with helpful info. That is what keeps me coming back. Lots of good people hanging around these parts!

SirsmokesalottaVery true! A couple of them have been exceptionally helpful to me for this drop and this is only my first drop. I don't know know if I will do others, but you never know. If there's another item I need in a drop, I'd probably do it.

SirsmokesalottaThis x100 a good community with feedback and communication helps and brings people back it's the same way with brick & mortar stores if you get good customer service and they have good products your more likely to return.
People are so helpful if they were previous purchasers of the drops and give in depth feedback for returning drops so people know if it's a good idea for them to join in.
community is everything!
