Received mine today. You can see how they got Annies down to $199. First, which everyone already knows, is that these are made in China, but secondly, they don't have a build that inspires confidence. Looking at the materials, a bunch of very light and thin plastic to those little funky bungee cords, how it's put together and how it feels, my guess is that these aren't going to last as long as my old Austrian K240Ms. I'm hoping to get a couple of years out of these, and that's with some most likely self-repair with a soldering iron in the not-so-distant future. At least there's a 2 yr warranty, but not sure how easy and long it's going to take to get service. Anyway, as far as the sound, yeah, a decent amplifier to drive these is a must, as I hear a difference in each amp I plug it into, from a small Soundcraft mixer to an HP4 to straight from a high-end interface. The amp makes a difference. Overall, sounds accurate, compared to my monitors, and is actually a bit on the warm side of neutral--I don't feel it's thin or bright, as people say of the 701/702s. The bass and mids seem accurate, clear and well-balanced, and I would say the same for the high. It's more of a studio monitor that would work as an additional mix reference than a "fun" consumer can, IMO, if that's what you are looking for.
