I'm all for quality, but PU is anything but quality. Does AKRacing make a gaming chair that is not made of PU pleather?
PU breaks down too fast. My current chair has been making a mess around my house because the pleather just keeps coming off. Never again will I buy a crappy pleather chair.
io2redThere are different grades of PU leather. We use nothing but the highest grade which is part of the reason we give our chairs a 5 year warranty and 10 years on the frame. We do also have fabric upholstery models and one model coming of real leather.
AKRacingAmericaI am very glad to hear you have a real leather model coming soon and look forward to seeing and hearing more about it. I'll keep my eyes out. As far as the different grades, if your PU is truly lasting 4-5 years then I am fairly impressed. And does it cost more than $40-$50 to ship it back to you if/when a problem happens during that warranty? Or are you covering that cost? I'd love to hear from some people if anyone can vouch for this.
From my experience most PU doesn't seem to last more than two (maybe three) years before some signs of wear and tear start appearing. And then you have to replace the entire chair when it's just the PU. It's planned obsolescence at it's finest. For example: The PU on my current office chair (which cost ~$175) is already falling apart and it is not even two years old yet. You can see how the bonded PU just flakes off.

I still have a leather couch that my parents bought back in the early 2000's; and *with proper cleaning and care*, the leather is still comfortable and looks great. The leather doesn't come off too because it's not bonded. It may have been an expensive couch at the time, but it has long since served its purpose; and still continues to do so today.
It's like the difference between Dye-sub keycaps and doubleshot keycaps. One wears out over time, and the other one can't wear out. The choice is too easy for me.
io2redI can assure you that you would not have the same experience with our PU Leather. As I said, there are multiple grades and we use the highest grade available. I, too, have seen the sort of wear you show on some competing products but you won't experience that with an AKRacing chair. The leather model, called Onyx Deluxe, will be available soon. MSRP is $699--besides being leather it is also our most deluxe design. At the factory they call it "the boss chair".
