Howdy Everyone, I want to address some concerns in this drop. 1. This is 100% new, never opened product directly from Apple. 2. White-box PT# 5PXV2LL/A     Apple retail PT# MPXV2LL/A (These are the same computers) We are offering the White-box version of the product which was not sold at Retail. Cheers.

Hello All,
For clarification in this drop the MacBook comes directly from Apple but has a 3rd party 90 day warranty and this is why we can offer such a great discount. These were originally intended as warranty replacements, and held by Apple to support their customers.
Why would somebody want to buy a dual core ddr3 laptop with a 720p display this just doesn’t make any sense to me, apparently Apple fanboys are just that “fanboys” because they clearly don’t care about performance they just want to have the Apple logo in the back of their computers
what was the price of the last drop?
Whats the price on this?
does this have the newest processor
Shiv100
Unfortunately no, believe this one is Katy Lake dual core. The latest is Coffee Lake which is quad core. That will make a difference with photo or video editing.
Does it come with a Massdrop serial number? ...
hobobobo
No, that'll be the next offering...a Massdrop/Apple collaboration, the Macbook PXX where the colorway is midnight blue instead of space grey and the 3.5mm audio jack is replaced with a 1/4" jack for the "desktop dac/amp enthusiast"
Are these still covered under the 4 year repair that apple has guaranteed
I am typing on one of these now! It is currently at 91 degrees Celsius. I am streaming Netflix and posting here, not doing much. BUT THIS THING IS HOT! And besides the class action lawsuit for the keyboard... It is not capable of playing fortnite on ANY setting. You cannot hdmi out to another source through a dongle because it drops signal and resolution every couple minutes. I build computers. I fix computers. You cannot fix what Apple did here. DO NOT BUY! Tim Cook is just trying to make everything smaller and it is ruining their thermals and therefore longevity.

That's fine. I'm not posting this for you, you've already made your decision and you're just flaunting it at this point. My posts are for people who are actually considering this product. The "other side of the story," so to speak.
techwiz
You didn't read any of the above posts and are just trolling so...

Edit: It's 2018 so I really wasn't sure if I would ever get a chance to make this gif. Do fanbois still exist? They do. I appreciate the opportunity.
Why the shipping is limited only to the US?! That is not cool at all..
Why would anyone buy this instead of a new, base model 2018 (for the same price??)? With the update in processors on the new models, this model's hardware is dated. The only reason one would buy this over the 2018 model is to get the touchbar model for a bit less. But as everyone knows who has used a new macbook pro, the touchbar is a complete waste of space (and in fact I would pay more to not have the damn thing, if need be!).
sacklunch
Well the base model is only a 128GB SSD and this one is 256GB. The comparable base model is $1500.
sacklunch
It's not really a bit less either. Talking several hundred less, which makes a big difference to folks.
"Apple’s 90-day warranty (new product / white box)"
This is BS as well. Apple has a 1 year warranty on all their hardware, including refurbs. Whatever this warranty is, it is NOT backed by apple. Also I dont know what this "new product/white box" BS is. Apple doesnt offload new old stock this way, nor do they package their refurbs this way.
This drop is shady AF!

I just proved that in two threads you are trolling and didn't read anything but somehow I am the toxic one?
Yeah I edited because I am trying to tone it down now days. Trying not to be so abrasive to trolls such as yourself. My apologies for that. It won't happen again. :P
smallbit
I'm not trying to troll bro. I just want to try and give people all the info they need. I'm a consumer just like you, and I don't like buying crap either. But ultimately, I'm going to try and remove my bias from the equation as much as possible and just focus on the facts.
I'm worried about the warranty for this product as well because enero made some really good points. Frankly, Massdrop has a pretty bad track record of backing "shit manufacturers say," as Linus Sebastian would put it, and then often leaves us high and dry. The fact that I can't put Apple Care on this product makes this an immediate no-go for me personally but that might be ok for someone else.
Can anyone sum up the differences or shortcomings of this 2017 model vs the current 2018? I am in the market for a new Macbook before the end of the year and I was figuring I would choose between the current 2.3GHz Dual Core i5 256GB w/o touchbar for $1,500 and the 2.3GHz Quad Core i5 256GB with Touch Bar and Touch ID for $1,800. This kind of seems like a respectable deal comparably.

comparing it to my friend's 2017 the feel is WAY better on the 2018 (although hers has had heavy use)—the 2017 feels like you're slamming your fingertips directly onto a metal plate, whereas the 2018 feels more like an actual keyboard. idk—ymmv
gorp
The only difference with the 2017 keyboard (which btw Apple did get class action sued for and lost) is the 2018 includes a membrane to protect dust from getting under their craptastic keys which causes the key to break entirely requiring a complete board replacement.
This "deal" uses an older cpu in the old model 2017 mbp. This thing is like a frankenstein imo. You do get a slightly bigger harddrive with less ram, but really a 256gb sd card costs 30 bucks now so what are you really paying for? You are going to have to get dongles anyways so whynot save the money and invest in cheap USB flash drives since you can grab 128gb for 15 bucks when it's on sale. I am at 90c typing this on a 2017 MBP no touchbar.
How could they not point out it isn’t a current model? That is shady to say the least.
Tragique
That is what tripped me up. Now it makes sense.
Just so you guys know this is NOT the current model. This only has a dual core cpu wheras the new ones are quad core. Don’t be fooled
This is last years model:
Apple MacBook Pro "Core i5" 3.1 13" Touch/Mid-2017 Specs Identifiers: Mid-2017 13" (Touch Bar) - MPXV2LL/A* - MacBookPro14,2 - A1706 - 3163
The 2018 version doesn't have a 3.1GHz Core-i5. Just be aware... It's a great price still and I'm considering just be aware it's not the 8th Generation Intel Chip
How is this legit at this discount? This is a huge discount considering. Am I missimg something here?
marker2037
Google "pro i5 touchbar" to see this same model at similar prices.

run
I wish it had 16 GB ram. I am needing to buy one, but I need 16 GB ram. If there were another drop before the end of next summer with 16 GB I’d buy it.
$30 cheaper from Apple refurb site, 2-day shipping.

You mean like this one? https://www.apple.com/shop/product/FPXV2LL/A/Refurbished-133-inch-MacBook-Pro-31GHz-dual-core-Intel-Core-i5-with-Retina-display-Space-Gray
To be fair, the price of the drop has fallen since enough people have bought it, but at the starting price, the refurb model was $30 cheaper.
BaccaBossMC
Which is $1439 and the drop is $1299 so yeaaaa that's not cheaper. +140 ≠ -30 that's for sure.
This is $30 cheaper so you probably saw this but it's not the same machine at all so... Like I said, read closer....

If it was 16GB of RAM then I'd consider, I've been looking all over for a good Macbook Pro deal.

You should get the AppleInsider app. It sends notifications regarding good current discount.
