"Apple’s 90-day warranty (new product / white box)"
This is BS as well. Apple has a 1 year warranty on all their hardware, including refurbs. Whatever this warranty is, it is NOT backed by apple. Also I dont know what this "new product/white box" BS is. Apple doesnt offload new old stock this way, nor do they package their refurbs this way.
This drop is shady AF!

eneroThis concerns me as well. Massdrop, do you have anything to say about the warranty? Also, what color is this drop? Silver? @Massdrop

eneroThe products being offered in the drop are not in retail packaging. They are in standard OEM white boxes. They are new 100% new products, never opened. They have a 90 day warranty.

Tex-ArozziI'm pretty sure (100% sure) Apple doesn't directly sell their old stock to OEM companies. So the question is, which OEM and Warranty honored by whom?

Tex-ArozziI don't mean to be contrary or pushy about this, but I have never heard of Apple offering a 90 day warranty for their laptops. And if this is being offered by an OEM company, why would Apple have anything to do with the warranty? Is there any documentation you can supply to prove what you are claiming is fact? Also when googling PT# 5PXV2LL/A , this drop is the only thing that comes up. Better safe than sorry...for all involved...

eneroOk, so from what @B.Hutch and @Jaysun have stated, I am going to try to clarify or answer my own questions about this item.
According to Massdrop, these are originally warranty replacement Macbooks that a 3rd party optioned and carry a 3rd party warranty.
Which means: 1) 90 day warranty from an unknown disrupter. Which basically means it's going to be a crapshoot on whether or not you will actually get any kind of support. 2) Because they are being bought through multiple channels, Applecare IS NOT an option. Apple will not honor or even allow Applecare to be purchased if it isnt for an item that they themselves (or an authorize distributer) sold to you. (but honestly, who cares when you can get better coverage from SquareTrade for around the same price... That is, IF, SquareTrade will even cover the laptop since they might not be able to identify or verify the macbook because of it's model number.) 3) Because these were meant as warranty replacements, and knowing Apple's policies on warranty replacements, there is probably about a 90% chance that these are most likely Apple refurbished Macbooks that do not carry Apple's own 1 year warranty.
As for them being either Silver or Space Gray, That's probably a crap shoot as well. Since these boxes are "whiteboxed" there might not be a way of knowing. Massdrop would have to say specifically what color they are. But with that said, Apple has special packaging for warranty replacements. They aren't just plain white boxes, Warranty replacement boxes have their own branding and markings on them as well as product info labels on them that would indicate the model, serial, specs, and color. So if they are just plain white boxes, they have been repackaged.
If I am off about any of this, I would love to know.

eneroApple is shady now. The keyboard replacements for this model are free for the first time due to the class action lawsuit but cost 800 bucks after that. This laptop is the worst and they know it so I think they are just trying to get rid of the backstock any possible way they can.
This very well could be Apple's new older model liquidation tactic when the old model has class action lawsuits left and right for being trash.

Tex-ArozziAnnnd this is when things get confusing. Yea so if they won't applecare them you're basically stuck with the 90 days and then nothing else. Credit card coverage should apply.

eneroYou are fired for usage of the word "totes". You can still view and buy stuff at Massderp but your comments will no longer be highlighted as an employee's.
If you have a question regarding your totes firing, you can contact the moderator team for B.Hutch by replying to this message and putting a little @ symbol before his name. Welcomed content considered would be memes specific to B.Hutch.
Reminder from not the Massderp staff: If you use another account to circumvent this Massderp totes firing, that will be considered a violation of the Content Policy and can result in your account being banzohamzored from the site as a whole because who wants to host/admin a site with 10,000 alt accounts that don't buy anything... Twitter I guess but that is not the point!

smallbitIf you wanna sit here and just shitpost or harass the folks at Massdrop, then take it to reddit or 4chan or whatever. I'm going to continue to do my part as a member of this community and help folks here make informed decisions whenever I can. All I did was provide more information to help reason out where these items are coming from, when Massdrop claims they're "from Apple." enero makes some good points about the credibility of these claims because Apple doesn't typically do this kind of thing. For most people, it's important to know if this is really from Apple, or "from Apple."

smallbitMaybe not, but if Apple had a sudden influx of 2017 models from folks upgrading to the 2018 model after the whole keyboard debacle then they would have a lot of product sitting in warehouse shelves. This could be an effort on Apple's part to clear stock. The last thing a company wants is millions in stale stock collecting dust in a warehouse somewhere.
I don't know what's up with the 90 day clause, that seems sketchy to me on a new Apple product. Only Apple repairs have 90 days AFAIK... which further makes me wonder if these are genuinely new or if Apple is just telling Massdrop they are.

smallbitI'm not trying to troll bro. I just want to try and give people all the info they need. I'm a consumer just like you, and I don't like buying crap either. But ultimately, I'm going to try and remove my bias from the equation as much as possible and just focus on the facts.
I'm worried about the warranty for this product as well because enero made some really good points. Frankly, Massdrop has a pretty bad track record of backing "shit manufacturers say," as Linus Sebastian would put it, and then often leaves us high and dry. The fact that I can't put Apple Care on this product makes this an immediate no-go for me personally but that might be ok for someone else.
