Thank you everyone in the community for helping us quickly discover that fake EarPods were being received. We’ve been collecting information and wanted to address this with a quick update.

The short of it is that if you joined this drop you will be receiving a full refund and you may keep your headphones as is.

For more context, the samples we received initially were tested and verified to be genuine EarPods. Once we saw tickets and comments regarding their authenticity we examined a sampling of units from the shipment and can verify that there is some number of high quality fakes in this batch. There is no way of confirming how many counterfeit headphones were sent out, but it is unacceptable to us that anyone received a fake in place of what they ordered. Further, we do not think it appropriate to ask our community members to provide proof in order to receive recompense given that there is even a chance you may have received a counterfeit.

As mentioned above, if you joined this drop you will receive a full refund and can keep your EarPods. If you have already sent in a ticket to Community Support, they will be responding to you with the same news. If you have not messaged Community Support, you do not need to do anything further.

We apologize to anyone who may have received counterfeit EarPods and feel this is the only right course of action. Domestic customers, can expect the refund to arrive in approximately 5 business days. For international customers it may take two weeks or more but rest assured that the refund has been processed and is on its way.

got mine a few days ago but didn't get a chance to try them until tonight. i looked through a few comments and found that others are describing the same things that i see/hear with my set....cracked jewel case, flimsy wiring, poor fit in ears, and exceptionally poor audio quality.
When are we going to get an update it has been a week???
The quality of the earpods is way bad. I have another pair that I originally intended to be replaced by these massdrop earpods and the difference is noticeable.
Right earpod stopped working within 4 hours. Not cool.
Either these headphones are fake or Apple's quality standards dropped massively. The audio is complete crap compared to a real pair of Apple Earpods even the ones that I've been using for the past year. The wires on these are thinner and stiffer compared to the real ones which leads me to wonder about how well they'll hold up with regular use. Also it may be because they're new, but they don't even seem to fit in my ears as good. Overall even for $10 these still seem overpriced.
Yup these are fake. The sound quality isn't so bad but compared to the genuine, it doesn't compare and especially the bass. The bass on the fake ones are not so great. Even the wire doesn't feel the same
I got on the bus today eager to try mine and the difference was immediate. At first I thought i was hearing wrong because I'm sick but I tried my real ones and the difference is MONUMENTAL. The sound in these things comes from the middle instead of out the end. What can we do?
I bought two pairs of these headphones and they were both damaged on arrival. One had a cracked case and each pair has a broken earphone.
I bought two and they're definitely not authentic. Very convincing fakes though, so kudos to whoever made these for their ability to defraud their customers.

It would be difficult to determine from looking at them, unless you had another pair to compare them to, but the Apple logos are slightly different (lower left portion of the emblem has a different curvature, to my eye) and the build quality is noticeably different from the case itself to the headphones...and that's before you put them on and hear how awful they sound in comparison.
No part of what I said blames Massdrop. I'm asking them to let us evaluate the vendor ourselves and determine if it's worth the risk. I'd much rather find out after 30 seconds into a Google search that a disproportionate number of consumers file complaints with a particular seller than waiting a month to receive a product and likely weeks beyond that to see any kind of resolution.

I was really excited when these came in the mail, but when I tried them, they didn't work very well. When I first plugged them in to Facetime with my friend, the sound didn't come out at all. When they finally started working, the sound was static-y and very poor quality. When I tried to speak into the mic, my friend could not hear me at all. I finally had to give up on these & simply talk without headphones. These are honestly poorly made in every aspect. I'm very disappointed with this purchase, and I really hope Massdrop does something about this. If we don't get a refund/replacement, they'd definitely lose my trust & I would probably never order from here again.
Massdrop is a great website, and I have gotten several great products from them: so don't judge massdrop just because the vendor lied to all of us saying these were genuine.
