I am trying to find a good reason for owning such a knife, but it has too many negatives going against it, starting with the proprietary pivot screw. Then its all downhill from there.
I am very impressed with MD for putting this company up here. I was totally unfamiliar with this company until now. I have just watched a couple of LONG videos by LuvThemKnives about Artisan and the Tradition model. I know that I will have one of these at some point in the near future. Virtually all have ceramic ball bearings. Other steel choices are S35VN and M390. Scales also include Titanium and Carbon Fiber. Most of these can be mixed and matched. I am going to try and get a catalog. (KC has six pages of pictures.) I don't see myself getting this model. I am coming to realized that I like a bit of a convex curve along my palm. The Tradition has this. Thanx again, MD. Another chuck of ignorance has been kicked to the curb. I will close by saying that while this knife might be found a bit cheaper, that $50.00 for this knife is certainly a very fair price.
Has anyone actually found a good deal on massdrop? I check all the prices on other websites and have yet to actually find a price thats any better through this site.
As far as I'm aware, the CF is always paired with S35VN on the blade. I've looked it up quite a few places and haven't seen this knife with a CF/D2 combo anywhere yet, including on the Artisan Cutlery website. There are 3 models essentially, with different colors and such. G10/D2, CF/S35VN, and Titanium/S35VN.
I can understand that. But I like to hold a knife in my hand before purchasing, so that benefit, isn’t a benefit for me. The feel and function is way more important than the look in a picture.
At first I purchased a few variations and liked the boxing and handles but the blades feel super stonewashed D2 cheap feeling to them. I do like some of the better blades like M390 which change to knife are out a lot but no more D2. For me.....,
BEAUTIFUL blade, and no I never owned or noticed his knife. I appreciate telling me. Its not that it's D2 I am turned off by, I just don't like the heavy stone wash. I like a polished blade or a very lite satin look. Its always personal in the choice. I don't use my knives, I collect them and I don't worry about a scratching the blade because I'll never put it to use I appreciate the look of the blade..High polish looks classic to me.
BarryOI’m with you on stonewash. It’s been overdone. It’s everywhere. I also prefer a fine, hand-rubbed satin and a polished blade more than stonewashing. I use about two-thirds of my blades: lightly and gently and don’t ‘need’ stonewashing to hide scratches. On some knives I ise more frequently and probably won’t sell, I am doing my own hand-rubbed finish over the stonewashing and have found the effect to be very interesting and preferable to stonewash.
