I can't find any run-times anywhere... I know the 14500's are pretty small capacity... what's the runtime like on something like this?

jfieldsI am not able to find any run times info on this light as well. But it won't be very long as like you said, 14500 have pretty small capacity. probably the same reason why no one bothered to measure run time on them.

jfieldsI don't have this light, and it will depend on the driver to some extent, but driving an XPL-Hi at safe-max on a 14500, you'll see somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 minutes runtime[1]. Running it at saner levels will give you a couple hours, more, of course, the more you back it down.
Also, keep in mind that that's direct-drive (at this price, you're not going to get a buck-boost CC driver) - you won't get 45 minutes of steady 1400 or whatever lumens. As the current level in the battery drops, so will your output. That's just how electricity works.
[1] That guesstimate is ignoring heat - in actual use, I'd expect the driver to step down pretty soon on a light this small so that you don't burst into flames. It the step-down is on a timer (common on cheaper lights), it will behave the same way every time, and probably step down in ~3-5 minutes. If it has a temperature sensor, step-down will depend on your environment, but again on something with as little mass as this to serve as a heat sink, it won't vary that much unless you happen to live in Antartica. It is difficult to argue with physics.

j.a.lon stepdown: this light uses a temperature sensor (looking for details of the "Bistro" firmware used in it should give more detail).
It also will step down as the battery voltage drops off (to avoid over-draining the battery).
