WOW.. An extra $80 to get the power brick? What? So why not just put it up for $289 and include it for free? I mean. Make it $0.03 and charge $288.97 for the brick so they think its a REAL deal.
Shame because I love this thing.
CokemanHi. Excuse me. For you, which Amp is better for the HD800?
-Aune X7s
-Asgard 2
Both amps have a lot power and are class A but what about the tonalitya and hiss?
I want to know if aune x7s has smooth highs because hd800 is very bright. And which has more separation, smoothest, more dynamisn and less hiss?
Thank you.
Wow. Fuck this shit.
I just went to join and was hit with +$80 for 110v unit!?!
That makes it $10 more than the "MSRP" listed...
I feel like canceling all currently joined drops. Wtf are you doing MD?
This drop seems a bit odd - you have to choose from a list of color/voltage options, but all options add to the cost of the drop. There's no way to buy the amp for just the drop price.
If you want a 110V model you have to pay $15 extra for silver or $30 extra for black. For the 220V model the extra charges are $5 for silver or $10 for black.
I wonder if previous drops of the amp had the same extra charges or is this something new?
That may or may not be, but it's still not okay to advertise a wrong price. For US customers, it looks like you could have the product for 199$ shipped, but it's actually at least 214$. Not cool
Just to share some hands on experience with the unit: very important to have the proper damping factor between cans and Aune X7S relatively high output impedance. It seems a bit unstable and in my case any of the 32 ohms cans showed quite a bit of coloration when switched between single ended and balanced output. I think it will be sensible amp for cans at least 120ohms or higher balanced. Secondly, there is noticeable hiss starting at around 2 o'clock with balanced output. Last but not least HE400i were definitely too bright with the X7S.
Hope this helps.
WAT? The listed price $199 is a LIE! You can't buy it at $199 because you have to pick an option for black or silver and 100V or 200V. This is false advertising.
Don't you have this amp? In you review you talk about it being balanced. I bought it and I like it, but now knowing it isn't actually balanced pisses me off cause I spent extra Money on a balanced cable for my HE-400i .
So I was seeing on different reviews that the amp pushes out too much for low impedance headphones. I was wondering what everyone’s take was on this. And what exactly are the consequences of using this device with a low impedance pair of headphones? Thanks in advance!
LunarkittenAnother thing is how much power the headphones can handle. The Fostex wooden headphones on here can take 1700 mW of power at their 25ish ohms, so they can easily handle this amp. You don't want to put in IEMs into this, but an HD6XX or Fostex will sing with this.
A bit deceptive as this is not 100% balanced... the input is not balanced so it would only give you more power, not the real benefits of going balanced.

I run my Nighthawks with a balanced cable through the x7s, and I definetly hear something change, apart from the volume. They sound more open and wide when plugged into the balanced output vs the SE output. Don't know how or why, but they just do.
HellikkIt's the extra power output that's helping, they tend to do that. When you remove (or reduce) clipping distortion, transients sounds like they're meant to and indirectly opens up the soundstage. Whether you use the balanced output out of the x7s, or a more powerful single ended amp, the result will be similar.
