Founded in 1983, Aurifil began with one simple mission: to provide professional sewists with a high performance line of threads. After filling the market with a range of colored cotton, Aurifil has solidified its place as a reliable supplier of superior quality threads Read More
I think we should ask Aurifil to make a "Bread & Butter" collection - with a few whites, a few greys, a few beiges, khaki, black, etc... All of the blender colors.
Hi Heather, thanks for bringing us this great deal! Some feedback on the Massdrop page, it's hard to tell which color set is which collection, I have to click on the image to enlarge it to see the name of the collection or hover over it, it would be nice is it clearly labeled below the thread collection which one was which. I managed to figure it out but I had to bounce back and forth before being confident I was ordering the set I wanted!
Terri_AnnHi @Terri_Ann,
Thank you for the feedback, it definitely makes sense. We've added captions below the spool pictures so that you can see which collection they are at a glance. I've also added all the collections with their list of colors at the bottom of the page.
tfischerI just bought one spool of 50wt Aurifil at my LQS for $13.99! Times 12 that is $167.88! This is a deal if you use a large variety of colors as I do!
They need a man version of the kit with black, white, olive drab, navy, silver, khaki, and the golden brown you'd use to hem jeans with. I sew quite a bit, but I don't think I've ever used any of the colors shown in the drop.
SilverheadThere is another Aurifil POLL going on right now. I sifted through the boxes available on Aurifil's site and found what I thought fit the bill closest to what you were asking for and I found the Autumn Box from Sheena Norquay. I have added that to the new poll to help you all out, should you decide it's for you. The colors are really rich and beautiful. I am a huge advocate of the Aurifil brand. And no I don't work for them, I just like to get behind a product I love so that I can do my do diligence to keep it on the market.
CarmageddonNot sure about specific machines, but my machine service technician always recommends Aurifil. Among the many uses listed at the Aurifil site, it says this about Machine embroidery : "Love it! Great results every time. Use Mako 50wt in the bobbin as well, or your regular bobbin thread – in which case tighten the top tension a little. Use a Microtex 80/12 needle".
CarmageddonAurifil Thread as described here isn't what I'd use for embroidery; it doesn't have a shiny finish to it like most embroidery thread. The 40 wt. would be better suited for machine quilting and the 50 wt. would be better used for piecing or machine quilting. Hope this helps!
gaping46and2They are probably a bit fine for hand embroidery. We're planning to eventually sell the 12wt which would be better for hand embroidery.
Aurifil does advertise that these work well for machine embroidery. Can't say that I've tried it myself but here's a link to the information on the Aurifil site if you want to check it out.

MarkI've used their threads for machine embroidery and they work really well. I use the Aurifil 60wt bobbin thread with them and adjust my tension a bit. Comes out beautiful!
