A major online electronics retailer had this projector for $460 last week and US AMEX card holders could have got it for $435 shipped. This sale is over now so MD price is decent if you don't want to wait for another sale.
BTW, this is not a HE projector it's a business projector that users can adapt for home entertainment.
Ok sorry
I'm sorry I lied 579 with shipping included

Lumpy53, When you make an error in a post its better for everyone that is reading them for you to go back and edit your original to make sure that no one reads the incorrect post. Just helps lower the confusion level in the discussions. Thanks!
This is a terrible drop I can buy it as cheap as 500.00 free shipping at amazon right now
I can get this on Amazon for 579 with shipping included
Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the BenQ MH530 Full HD 3D Home Entertainment Projector and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 11/4.
We will keep the group updated throughout the fulfillment process. You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 10/27.

I was about to post the same thing. I have seen this so many times on massdrop. I use it more as a site to find out about cool stuff now and then go find the better price and normally much faster shipping.
Two Part question:
A) If I ordered this for delivery to Australia, would it come with an AU power cable? Or just the US one? B) BenQ MH530 VS HT2050, for short throw, 2-3m?
It's amazing how much these home projectors have come down in price while going up in quality over the last decade. I bought a Sanyo PLV Z3 in 2004-5 for about $2k and still use it. One of the best toys I've ever bought. I imagine the new stuff is even more fun.
Would this be a good outdoor projector for movies in the backyard?
BJarv
Yes it would. You may want to also get a higher gain screen to increase the perceived brightness. You may not have to do that but doesn't hurt especially if watching while the sun is still out and bright rather than at dawn when it is not bright out.
My family bought this last time the drop was on. We are very safetied. Please note though that we had to wait 1 1/2 months for it to arrive.

Glad you are enjoying the projector. I apologize for the time it took to receive the projector. I will work with Massdrop to make sure further BenQ products take as little time to be shipped from us to them as possible.
Bulk shipment received! Our warehouse team confirmed that the group's order arrived earlier and now they're working hard to break everything down into the individual packages for shipment to each of you. We will monitor their progress closely and update the group once all packages are sent out.
Expect another update from us on 9/7 or sooner if something comes up.

"Fully compatible with the latest full-HD 3D technology, it projects an impressive 1.07 billion colors for the most true-to-life representation across all of your content."
This would mean it supports 10-bit color, yes?
Braok
no full HD 3D is refering to an older stnadard. No projector at the $1000 price point is going to have 10bit colour.
Very tempting, but not quite low enough for me to jump aboard. If it was below $475 I would do it.

I'm waiting till the 4k projectors become popular...

We are coming out with our new 4K projectors hopefully by the end of the year. I have no information on them as I was told only our business and education sales managers will be selling them when they first come out. Feel free to give BenQ a call if or when ready and we can direct you to the best person to assist you with a 4K projector.
This costs 40 dollars more on Newegg, it's not actually a 1k projector.
What are the response timings for this projector? (Small scale game tournaments)

It is not meant to be a gaming projector but the MS is quite decent for what it does. If you need a gaming projector, please look at our HT1075 (normal throw) or our HT2150ST (Short throw) projectors. Those are meant for gaming. Our HT2150ST actually has the lowest MS of all our projectors which is 16ms. Feel free to contact me on my direct line if you have more questions at 714-559-4926.
How does this compare to the BenQ W1070? Probably no point in jumping in on this even though I've had the W1070 for years and it's working fine.

this projector is meant for bright rooms, or rooms with a bit more ambient light than one would want. Also for people who may want to watch movies outside in their backyard or something like that. Pretty much think of this projector as a nice flexible projector that can be in a dark room or a bright room. The W1070 isn't the best in rooms with light. Very nice projector by the way (W1070)
