New work facility has a stupid 2.5" rule, so I'm looking at picking up this little guy or a dragonfly (probably the knife center exclusive Hap40/wood model).
I like the look and materials of the goblin, and I've heard good things about bestech, but the blade thickness has me concerned. 0.14 is pretty beefy for such a short blade, but the blade is tall. Anyone have any thoughts on how this thing slices? Will this thing cut well enough or should I just buy the dragonfly?
Who am I kidding, I'll probably end up with both.
And a lil native.

NotsurewhyibotherI don't own a dragonfly to compare, but I can tell you my goblin slices pretty nicely. You're right, it's a very tall grind for such a short blade length

NotsurewhyibotherHate that security theater 2.5" rule - put me in a bad mood for months. Then it gave me an excuse to go shopping for a new knife! Lemons > lemonade. Or at least something less bitter because some days you just want to carry something bigger.
I have the Dragonfly2 in VG-10/FRN and it does well by me. A good slicer of course and now that I have diamond stones I can put a better edge on it. It's nice and light and I love the wire clip. The worst thing you could say about it is that it's kind of boring.
It's interesting that the Goblin has a slightly larger blade than the Imp yet weighs virtually the same. From Kavik's review it looks like the handle is the same between the two models.

bookworm13Handles are 100% identical The goblin does have a slightly longer blade, but it also has a higher grind, so the Imp has a little more steel left on the blade

Notsurewhyibother My take on this is "What a short blade, but at least it's ugly." This one doesn't do anything for me. The steel is very good. I know this brand by name only. I haven't heard or seen anything good or bad about it. I have several Spydercos. The one I like least is the Brad Southard flipper. I don't like the action, the ergos, or the looks (except for the orange handle.) All my others are gold. Therefore, I would urge you to get one of these.

NotsurewhyibotherLet me speculate on your question since I did everything but that. You might have to do some sharpening, but with diamond stones, S35VN is not a problem. I suspect that it would slice and dice very well. Keep in mind that this is a flat grind which is not the most conducive to slicing excellence.

14themoneyI own several s35vn blades and sharpen them on a pretty basic lansky turn box ceramic rod system. Got my zt 0450 plenty sharp w/o spending too much time. I much prefer it over s30v which tends to microchip alot easier.

14themoneyI have picked up a couple of Bestechs since my post. I like them. I believe that I got my Hornet here. I'm not crazy about the huge finger choil, but mechanically, it's great.

CdoyleI have the Spyderco Sharpmaker that I use quite often. My DMTs are about 12" long and I keep them in the original packaging. The SSM often stays set up so it is very easy to put to use. I agree with your assessment of ceramic rods.

BobrazI own the knife center exclusive Endura and delica collector club edition both in pakkawood and HAP40 (obviously). They are slightly heavier than the standard frn versions with full liners instead of nested and the wood scales. They are beautiful and HAP40 is way better than the standard vg10 for edge retention. If you like the models I highly recommend them.
