I thought there are so many better choices for the same price. The 1 more triple driver's, the akgk7xx the Sennheiser hd6xx. Those are sooooo good in different ways. The Hifiman he4xx is great too and then we can discuss so many choices at this price that are good. But these.... they just.... were not. At least not out of the box. Actually. They weren't good for 2 weeks.... Heck they felt better and better and after 6 months still not at full potential. They're weren't bad per se., I liked the build and they are comfortable from the get but I thought, If I did not purchase these...that would be fine. But I guess that's what this hobby is about. Finding out for yourself. I have the 600ohm version BTW. Original score. 3. Now after a very... very long break in. 4 stars. After a few more months maybe 5. My original description.. muddled sound, unimpressive in every way. Too much bass... no separation or depth. Just not good. I literally worn them once, then tried to break them in playing all night. Listened to them again and put them away. I have too many good choices to waste my time with these.... at least that's what I thought. :/ Then I left them playing for 2 nights (24 plus hours) and they finally sounded better. 3 more listening sessions.... better and better. Finally!!!! Mind you, I just wanted my money's worth and was trying to see what I could do to fix an unimpressive headset. I'm glad I did! Using a topping nx4 DAC with a Emotiva BasX 100 headphone amp stacked at relatively high volume did the trick. No longer muddled, clear mids, voices came alive. Still very comfortable as I noted out of the box. Now they get the score they deserve. Just be prepared at the beginning for a long break in. BTW, even with the long break in, at $200 I'd start with those other options listed up top. But if you have a great amp and time, I think these will continue to only get better. 600 ohms.... I knew what I was doing. Lol.

piedrafriaI have a fully broken in pair of these and I agree that they are pure magic. Their sound is similar to Senn HD600 but a little more engaging, and I prefer the contour these have through the mids and treble. I have the DT770 2005 Premium Edition 250 ohm and they have more "slam" and a sort of teutonic violence that's good for metal, but the 880 Special Edition are just so much more comfortable for everything else. The fluffy velour earpads and the voicing of these headphones (different from 880 Pro or Premium 250/600 ohm) can be enjoyed for hours, and these are my go-to music listening headphones. I can only use the 770's with my THX 789 amp or warmer-sounding amps, but the 880's go well with any of my amps - even the cheap ones. I really hope these can come back for Drop customers so I can get a couple pairs to give to friends.
