Okay, so ai'm shopping around for an open back headphone. AKG 7xx or these? I have the massdrop amp+odac and I'm not sure if it can do 600Ohm headphones. Any help is appreciated!
ZaenilleIt can definitely do 600ohm headphones.

ZaenilleI'm also making this exact decision, and these two sets of cans have been fighting for my money now that the 600 Ohm DT990s are on sale again. In my findings, my research on the 7xx's yielded generally positive reviews, but I kept seeing the same horror story about on of the drivers failing unexpectedly after a year or two, and the same reports of its unforgiving nature on various set ups (which I took with a grain of salt). The DT990s also were also greeted with acclaim, but were said to have a very significant amount of bright highs, which will subside over time for a more balanced feel. In terms of build quality, I feel as though the steel frame on the DT990s, as well as its German construction (if this is a factor for you) will overtake the 7xx's, which appear to be the nicest AKG cans that aren't made in Austria, but rather China. I just recently decided to go with the DT990s and canceled my order for the 7xx, but you really can't go wrong with either set.

scaryhouselightI have a set of 32 ohm DT-990 Premium that I've been using heavily (3 to 4 hours/day, 5 days a week) for 3 1/2 years now. Last week, the right side driver failed (buzzing and crackling treble). I'm getting replacement 250ohm drivers from Beyerdynamic and going to swap out both sides.
In contrast, my buddy with a 10+ years old DT880 is still going strong.
