A brief reflection and look at how far our community has come since joining. I’ve been in the mechanical keyboard hobby for a very long time. It started as a high school student’s search for a keyboard for writing novels back in the 2008-2009 school year. I thought I wanted to be an author and I felt I needed a keyboard that I could sit down to at my desk and just write. After researching, joining forums, and saving money, I made my first purchase in the hobby, a blank black Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional 2. I still own this keyboard and while it is heavily modded now, it remains one of my all-time favorites. What doesn't show up well in my picture is the wood base, which to the eye is actually a very deep rich wooden color that I quite like. Its thicker than the example photos - and thicker than I expected. This forced the mountain to be closer to the top of the keycap which gives it a bit of a squat appearance.
All of these are hand made, so obviously there are going to be difference between keycap to keycap. I just wish there was a bit more consistency in the painting technique. I suspect that some of them were a bit rushed because they had so many to do.
In spite of those issues, I am glad I have one in my collection.
