Has anyone used these poles before? Would it be better to get the Ergo grip (15 degree grip, 2 carbon/ 1 aluminum section) or the Carbon without the 15 degree grip angle but all 3 carbon sections?
You should post this on our newest outdoor thread about gear closets! https://www.massdrop.com/talk/3498/ongoing-show-tell-gear-closet

Hey everyone -- I recently had a chance to put these trekking poles though some pretty serious testing during a backpacking trip in the Denali Wilderness. I was very impressed with how they held in the rugged, trail-less terrain; there were a few times they got wedged between sharp rocks and I thought for sure I would hear a 'crack' or feel a bend, but they sprung back without any structural damage. Now that I've used angled cork grips, I don't think I will ever go back to straight or foam.

When will this drop open again? Looking for the straight one (non ergo).

everlineReally wanting these as well!
Do the ergo handles affect a trekking pole tent setup at all? Also, what is the difference between the alpine and trail versions of these? Thanks.

Outdoor gear labs best walking poles. No brainer at this price.

LangitaanNot to be picky but these are between the first (regular carbon) and second (ergo shape but aluminum) since I believe they are the "Ergo" ones since the description states they have the 15 degree angle. Not sure if and how that would change the review. Basically, it makes them less compact when retracted due to the shaft not being able to slide into the handle all the way. That said, I have these and love them; they are on the heavy side but very durable.

LangitaanAs others have noted, it's a no brainer at this price. I paid $125 (incl. shipping) about a year ago, and I thought that was a steal. These are durable, light, and have great feel when hiking.

Not sure if anything can be done for the 19 committed, but you can buy these for $96.95 and free shipping at sunnysports.com. That is about a $13.00 savings. I was interested in these, but wish there was a better negotiated price given they can be bought elsewhere for cheaper: www.sunnysports.com/p-bkdaec/black-diamond-alpine-ergo-cork-poles-pair
(also, to add even more savings, you can get 1% cash back on sunny sports purchases if you have a mr. rebates account and link to your shopping through it)

kattinthehatBut the ones you posted are the ergo ones. Sunnysports doesn't have the regular cork poles.

TrivialWizardCorrect.. my post was in regard to being able to purchase the Ergo poles for substantially cheaper. But considering that was the default option and the Carbon Corks are sold out, it seemed relevant to post. I'm not sure why people would join the drop for the Ergo option at this price (yes, it's a good deal at 104.99, but 96.95 with free shipping is a better deal).

you guys do not mention what poles you are saying are good. there are TWO diff ones in this drop.
as far as worth 10.99 for 2 oz is up to yuou. my old bd =poles have the ergo grip and I must say it helps. its a more natural hand position. look closely at eh grips.
also for your reference the photos here are of the ergo

Is the Alpine Carbon Cork worth the additional $10.99? It saves roughly 2oz., but are there other advantages or disadvantages?

listIessIF....Campsaver had them, they were on sale at $112.46 (free ship'g)...so you win, you'll save a few bucks. IF you're tough on them, like the 2 different BD sets I've owned and broke, the fractures will look like this after several months of use:

I've owned and still several heavy and long twist-lock aluminum poles that have never broke. Yeah, heavy and long. So pick your weapons carefully.
I've finally settled on one of the BD "Z" Aluminum series (light and short when collapsed), and haven't had a failure yet in 19 months.
Good luck!
