Has anyone critically compared these to headlights made by non outdoor-rec focused companies ? Energizer has a variety of headlamps, for example, that are just as bright and seem to have just as many features for significantly less than BD's street price. My energizer headlamp has been doing the job for me just fine, but I'm wondering if I'm really missing out on something. Are these significantly lighter for the lumens or something ?

EverythingIsBetterOutdoorsLate response but for posterity, this is the best headlamp I've ever owned (not like I've owned that many). The difference is in build quality, reliability and therefore trustworthiness. The button feels as good as my BRZ's trunk button, a rubber clicky waterproof button. The housing feels solid, the projectors are focused well and the tilting mechanism feels precise. I'm sure there are bentleys of headlights out there but for the price I trust these black diamond for both outdoors as well as for working on vehicles and house stuff.

Mario.Paul@Mario.Paul well I "bit the bullet" and bought a Storm a few weeks ago and yup, you're right. Even though the cheapy led headlamps are great and a huge step up from old incandescent flashlights, the BD headlamps just blow me away. The Storm is ridiculously bright - even on a non-white color at it's lowest setting I have been able to easily hike at night whereas in the past with my cheappy night hiking was a bit trecherous. They're also very versatile in their programming - the one I got lets me dim it to a specific level but instantly bring it up to full brightness or instantly back to dim with the flick of my finger (literally), and has multiple colored lights built in, AND I easily get several nights run time on a single set of batteries. Easily worth the money hands down, glad I finally did it and got myself "one of them fancy new fangled" headlamps.
