Warmth to weight ratio is off the charts. I bought one. Wife saw it, liked it. Bought her one. Which she loved. And lost. So bought another (this time in the slightly more water resistant nylon). I use it in both the back country (quite nice at nice as I sleep in a backcountry quilt without a hood, not a sleeping bag) and around town. Only downside is that it is so small and light, it is easy to lose. The latest one I got in bright red to avoid that problem. Other downside is that it leaves just a bit of lower earlobe exposed.
It's a good hat. I wear this to bed when I am sleeping out in the winter. It tends to slide down and cover my eyes, but that is ok, as I can sleep better. It's pretty shocking when you wake up though and think its dark and then find the sun hitting you in the eyes when you pull the hat up. I would like to see another version made that is shaped with ear flaps to cover the ears, but cut high in the back so your neck doesn't case it to raise. I could wear one like that during the day.
This hat is one Of the few products I’ve ever reviewed. It is 100% with every penny. I’ve used it on 8 trips below freezing thus far, and every day below freezing in my day to day life, since purchase.
it has exceeded all expectations. I have a massive head and the largest size offered fits just fine
It is a warm hat, but I would only use it for sleep. It doesn't breathe all that well, while on the move, and at the same time a light wind will go right through it. Weird, eh? Ok for sleeping, though.
BeermehYeah that was my worry, about the wind. Thanks for being informative on that. $55 is a bit much when it can pretty much only be used for sleeping.
This is my favorite hat! It keeps my head plenty warm and it is wicked light. It is nice to sleep in too. I did some hiking on the AT this past winter and temps were in the single digits. I was glad I had this hat!
Love this thing., Warmth to weight is fantastic, much better than my previous fleece beanie and it packs to nothing. I think it also looks quite good once you get passed the puffy hat look. I'm intending to use it in conjunction with the back packing quilt I have just purchased.
Easily the best beanie I've ever owned. For wet use I still opt for wool, but otherwise I use this thing all the time. The company was really responsive and worked with me on sizing it perfectly, and I couldn't be happier with it. Here's hoping they do another drop so I can pick up a backup or two.
