Wow..... After the shit show we had here last time around, i can't believe they piggy backed this new blue box with different options onto the same product page So, if the base is now CPM-S110v, how is S30V an upgrade?

KavikThe S110v lightweight (FRN scales) retails for less than the S30v/G10 model, so upgrade...I guess. Personally, I would rather have the better steel, but that's just me. Particularly since due to "CQI" the G10 models have lost their steel liners, you aren't really getting a more robust knife, just a subjectively more attractive one.

NotsurewhyibotherSorry, but what's CQI? Yeah, i wasn't questioning MD so much as Spyderco here. Their pricing model is getting screwier and screwier, when they can throw on a much cheaper steel, but upgrade a plastic handle and still convince people that the value has somehow gone up 🤔 And so many people eat it up, and buy every version of the particular model...i just don't get it

KavikYeah, this ruins the drop for me. Your most likely upgrade is to a worse steel --- well, the 110 vs 30 debate is a hot one (edge keeping vs ease of sharpening), but for me, I have a lot of S30 blades and don't really need another one. So with my luck, I'd get the "upgrade" I don't want!

Rosebud41I've yet to try S110, it's the only thing that got me remotely interested in looking at this, but I wouldn't want most of the "upgrades" either. But technically they say even S30V should be sharpened on diamond, due to the hardness of the vanadium particles and risk of tear out by using any stones trust can't cut it. Is S110 really THAT much harder to sharpen if you're using diamond anyway?

KavikDon't have S110 myself (hence the potential appeal of this drop, until MD blew it up...) but many users claim it's a lengthy and difficult process even with hand held diamonds.
