I didn't buy my Bonavita BV1901TS from Drop but have used it for about 10 weeks now. This is a better price for a great coffee maker. Its simplicity and ease of cleaning are very good. The coffee it brews is excellent. I can make the coffee hot for the cooler months and for our very hot weather it makes wonderful iced coffee.
I bought a BV1900TS on Craigslist and love it. It differs from the BV1901TS in that the brew basket sits directly on top of the carafe instead of attaching right under the shower head. Other than that difference, it should be the same. I love my BV1900TS - it brews great tasting coffee quickly, and in larger volumes than I can do in a regular pourover. It's perfect for mornings when I want a cup of coffee with breakfast, and some to take with me to drink on my commute and when I get to my office.
My only complaint is that the carafe is awkward to pour from, and never seems to completely dry after I rinse it out, even after sitting upside down for days. So I bought the glass carafe that comes with another non-thermal Bonavita (https://prima-coffee.com/equipment/bonavita/53040), and that works fine. It won't stay warm in the carafe, but I just pour a cup in my mug and the rest into my Yeti, and all is well.
I did not get this from MD but have been using just a tad bit over a month.
I'd say it's a definite upgrade from cheapo Mr.Coffee.
I've read some reviews on Amazon about carafe leaking.
Mine leaked first and I re-sitted the seal on lid. No more leaking. Keeps coffee steaming for at least 3 hours.
I wish the lid button spring rate was about half of what it is. I torched the spring to adjust to make button not as stiff.
After about a month I finally got my delayed shipping of the Bonavita. It arrived safe and sound and guess what, the coffee it makes is just exceptional!!
Before now I was using the Yama Glass 8 Cup Stovetop Coffee Siphon mostly with ground Lavazza Rossa (and sometimes grinding B&B Dancing Goats or French Roast) and the coffee was good. Now, with Bonavita, the coffee just tastes so much better that I am not going back. It tastes smooth and rich with no acidity whatsoever. The only less than optimal feature is certainly the screw-on carafe lid which just stands around until the coffee has percolated and you can screw it on. Overall, I recommend this Bonavita model.
This is my first experience with Massdrop. I wasn't totally sure about having to wait 4 weeks for the supposed ship date; but I figured I would give it a shot. They did send out the email, but really did not give anyone an idea of what the revised date may be. "if it's more than 30 days we will let you know" seems pretty lame for me. I'll be a bit more patient, but I am not impressed at this time.
massdrop at their best. if they want to know how not to run a drop, this is a great example. all it would take is a courtesy email with a status update. But in massdrop fashion we get nothing. no return of money, no status, nuttin.
