Received the belt today (fast shipping!) and it does appear to be pretty decent quality. However, I did note that it states that it is "Genuine Leather" on the back and not "full grain leather" as the drop description states. There's a big difference between the two, especially in how they withstand abuse and age over time. Here's a description of the types: https://highonleather.com/blogs/all-about-leather-bags/54127301-which-leather-is-best-for-your-bag
While I still feel that this is a decent deal, one reason I joined the drop is because a full grain leather belt at this price point is a very good deal.
thrillhoIn reading further down in the thread, it looks like the company rep states that the front is full grain leather, while the back is nubuck (i.e. genuine leather). That makes sense, although I was definitely thrown by what was embossed on the back. Should probably look into changing that to indicate the two types. Still a nice belt and pretty good deal.
thrillhoThank you for reminding me of the manufacturer's comments found below. I was scratching my head too yesterday when I read genuine leather and was thinking to myself I could have gotten this belt at TJ Maxx for less. The stamping should indicate "Italian Full Grain Leather Top" to better distinguish its build.
I like the feel and graininess of the leather and the uniformity of the stitching and the holes - very good for something handmade. The buckle is also pretty solid.
Some things I'm not so fond of:
a)The whitish underside.
b)The fact that it says genuine leather - this is often a misnomer nowadays. Wish it said Full Grain Italian leather instead.
Durability - Time will tell.

deaman312Hi Deaman321, thank you for your comments, please note: your belt is indeed Italian full grain leather / the underside is European nubuck / the holes are stained one at a time by hand / although the stitching is done by a machine, it is processed one at a time by hand. I will work more closely with the Massdrop team about the descriptions. I am very happy the Massdrop customer is so passionate about our products & I know your belt will give you years of wear. Cheers ! Adam
AdamJ.PlotnickCheers Adam! The reason I dislike the whit(ish) underside is because of how poorly it contrasts with the top. It's true that most people will probably never see the underside, but it is a bit of an eyesore for me hanging on the rack. Plus it feels like a step away from perfection in my opinion. I would also never recommend Nubuck for any daily wear item because of how easily it stains (in my experience).
In all other respects, thank you for a beautiful belt.
Three questions: 1. How is the buckle attached to the leather? 2. Does the brown one come with the brass buckle as pictured or with a nickle buckle as set out in the description? 3. How thick is the full grain leather used for the top? Also, I agree that more black units would be appreciated, it is the most commonly used colour for formal men's belts after all...
namelessHi Namless, I will try to answer all your questions:
1) The buckle is stitched with two rows. one on either side of the loop.
2) im afraid the description is not correct. The buckle on the brown belt is brass as pictured.
thkx for pointing this out !
3) The full grain leather top is from a mill in Italy called, "Sa Ga Pell" I think they were established 1937
the thickness is 1.8-2.0mm. It is then lined with a nubuck leather which is 2.0mm.
Comments, sorry we sold out of the black colour & small sizes so fast. We truly appreciate your passion & interest in our hand made products. Cheers !
AdamJ.PlotnickThank you, the prompt and exact answer is much appreciated! I ordered a brown one as black was sold out and moreover the outer surface has a grainy finish.
If you redo such a drop, you may want to consider offering a non-grainy formal belt with the same buckle as the Miller (at least in black). I haven't seen any on Massdrop lately, and I am sure many men would be interested in buying such a prototype of a formal belt in this quality at this price point.
Upon checking your website I saw that your Langham unfortunately has a square buckle, and the Fairford has sold out.
For what its worth I purchased a different model (Langham) from British Belt Co. and was a bit disappointed. The belt immediately developed pronounced creases in the buckle area that were quite visible if you used an alternate hole. I tend to shift between one of two holes depending on the pants I'm wearing and these creases are now visible regardless of which hole I use. I am definitely not a belt expert, maybe this is normal but not something I've encountered with other quality belts. The belt is now one year old and the picture is recent however these creases developed shortly after I began wearing the belt and since I have not been wearing it much. Again my belt is a different model but it makes me hesitant to consider another purchase from this manufacturer.
NootkaMy Langham belt didn’t crease anywhere near as much as yours, but it is certainly a bit prone to creasing. The Miller belt is very different due to the grain pattern among other things. I haven’t had any issues with it at all.
Curious why shipping 1 costs $3.50 and shipping 2 costs $7.75. It's not that I care much about the 75¢, but it is pretty silly to charge extra for buying in larger quantity. (And, consider giving a shipping discount for quantities instead!)
ScrooogeWe're definitely working on bringing this style back up sooner rather than later. There will be a similar dress belt style from BBC coming up soon as well. Keep your eyes peeled for that~! :)
I saw a comment that the black comes with a yellow buckle. The ONLY REASON I'M BUYING THIS IS FOR THE GREY BUCKLE.
Massdrop, please confirm. I will be requesting a full refund if it is not a grey buckle as the image.
