For anyone who wants to sleep under the stars without worrying about pesky insects throughout the night, the Byer of Maine Moskito Kakoon Hammock has a lot to offer. Recently updated from the original model, this new design is 8 inches longer, 2 inches wider, and pares down 4 ounces—coming in at just 22 ounces. Plus, its parachute nylon construction features triple-stitched seams and reinforced hanging points, bumping the weight capacity up to 275 pounds. The two-piece spreader bars are removable, making this version more compact and the stuff sack smaller and easier to carry. Complete with an integrated mosquito net and two storage pockets, this hammock can also be flipped over and used conventionally.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have the option to add the Micro-Strap System (+ $19). Please note that the rope hanging system reflected in the photos below are not included in the updated Moskito Kakoon Hammock.
Compatible with all hammocks and designed to be gentle on tree bark and distribute weight more evenly than conventional rope, this hanging system is composed of two straps, plus a custom aluminum clew bar and buckle for quick adjustments. The straps weigh 14 ounces total, measure 9 feet long apiece, and are made with box and cross stitching for security and strength.
Founded in 1880 by a Russian immigrant family in Bangor, Maine, Byer of Maine originally produced slippers and textile products. In 1925, the company relocated to Orono, and over the next few decades began making wood-frame folding cots and canvas products for soldiers in World War II and the Korean War. Today, inspired by travels and trade relationships, Byer of Maine offers a full line of hammocks, hanging chairs, cots, stools, and other camp furniture from around the world.
Please note that while photos show the rope for hanging the hammock, it is up to the user to know and use the appropriate hanging system that best preserves the health of the trees, each and every time.
