I'm a hobby photographer. My father bought my 1st camera, a Nikon CoolPix back in the early 2000's. Needless to say digital camera's have improved since then. Specially when the price jumps from $150 to $680. Well start with the photo side of this camera; The best thing about the camera are the colors. Canon has managed to produce colors that are vivid, natural, & sharp. No red bleed/bloom. It manages this with poor lighting, & if the lighting decides to play nice you can get some truly stunning photo's out of this camera. Everything about the image quality is excellent, to the point that ISO snow is easier to spot, and is my only gripe about this camera. I normally shoot at 6400 to get around this. I'm also getting a prime 50mm 1.8, so that should help with low light photo's as well. I'll update once it arrives. I've used this camera to design a brochure. I had someone conducting a class, and helped em out by making an instructional pamphlet. For product photography, this camera performed well. I was able to bang out stock photo's used in the pamphlet in no time. The project was short notice, but we had a profetional finished product out the door in 1 hour. I manage buildings for a large corporation, & I used this camera to document damage to our buildings. I also plan on using this to create texture files for 3D design in Blender. As far as work goes, I'm going to be busy with this camera. We're also saving up to build our 1st house. I think this camera will find some use in the construction process. I need to use this camera outdoors more, but I can already tell she loves natural light. I plan on taking Landscapes & Nature photos. The 18-55 zooms well enough, but I already want more reach. So i'm attaching this to my telescope. Maybe I can get some cool photo's of a SpaceX launch. Portraits are contratsed & full of definition. I really do enjoy how much character I am able to capture with this camera. My subjects expressions clearly shown, as they roll their eyes as I take yet another photo. Never has someone giving me the bird been captured in stunning detail. As for the video side, no its not 4K but damn it I don't care. It looks great at 1080. Smooth frames, vivid colors, and near perfect autofocus. I've used this camera for twitch streaming & the auto focus occational hunts for my face. It's fast at focusing, but the fact that I'm sitting down not moving and the autofocus looses track of me is a little wonky. I think it's due to my lack of motion that cuases the auto focus to go nuts in the first place. Other then that, the video is nice if you don't need 4k. I guess if I need to record video at 4K I'll use my phone. So in conclusion, does this compare to a cellphone camera? I view this the same way I view telescopes, in that it depends on your needs. The key is what system can gather more light, and that's easily the DSLR with its larger lenses. But you pay for that capability. If all you do is post on social media & take the occasional selfie, then a cellphone camera might be your ticket. Many of your cellphone weilding friends will likely ask why you even bothered to purchase a DSLR. Just smile, and agree you have something mentally wrong ticking in your head. After all, they'll also start asking why your photo's keep coming out better. Have fun, thanks for reading, and I hope this helps. Update: 2/22/2019 I said I'd update once I got the 50mm lens & here we are. The stock lens that came with this camera is fine, but the aperture on this 50mm!!! I'm hooked now, bokeh is so nice. With the colors this camera can produce, you get some really nice bokeh. I now want a 30mm prime & 200mm. What have I gotten myself into? I also added a Tripod into the mix, and this camera is really starting to show its stuff. How do I feel about this camera right now though? For my current needs, this camera is perfect. If I grow as a photographer I'll look into getting a full frame sensor. But for now, this camera meets my needs just fine. I'll get a few more lenses as I need them. But for now, this is it.
