Hey Droppers.
I picked this up on the last round and thought I'd share some impressions just in case anyone is on the fence about picking one of these guys up. Since I'm thinking about picking up another one I thought it might be useful for some of you (and to my own brain) if I detailed why -- even though it's my favorite belt -- I'm not totally sure I'm going to buy another one.
But hey, I did just say it's my favorite belt, didn't I? And if you're on the fence, you should probably pull the trigger -- you're going to get use out of this thing. I think there's been three days in the last month that I haven't worn it. That being said, what follows is why buying a second one isn't a total no-brainer. And I mean, this is massdrop, so I figured all considerations -- however pedantic -- should be thoroughly articulated in the comments section, right?
1. The buckle finish is more easily scuffed than you'd expect. I got the flat because it's the coolest looking, but if you care about such things you may want to consider one of the raised patterns instead (unless CT has retooled the finishing process, of course). To clarify, I've only worn this thing to work... and I'm a librarian.
2. I thought the tail-tuck thing would be weird, and only ordered it because it could be worn tail to the side (that is, folded over the locking post). But as DkPond pointed out below, if you do that it sticks out at enough of an angle that it's not the kind of thing you could wear to an office and not have people tell you your belt's messed up. Buuuuuut as it turns out I really like the tail-tuck thing after all! It's a fantastic way to wear a belt and I pity my previously ignorant self.
3. That said, tail-tuck can get kind of slippy. It's not like your pants are going to fall down unexpectedly, but I generally tighten it once during the day. If someone with a typical degree of strength grabbed your belt from behind and jerked back, they're going to get a fist full of belt... and then your pants might fall down. Note I got the single-layer; I can't speak to the double-layer.
4. I don't know if it's the locking post itself or the tooling on the inside of the male buckle, but the action of the locking post is super janky. Like you go to push it forward (to thread the belt through the buckle) and it'll get caught somewhere so you have to wiggle it, push it back and then kind of wiggle it again and push it forward. Once the belt's in it's fine; it's just not as buttery of an experience as you might expect.
5. The webbing material that makes up the belt itself (and inadvertently leads to item #2 above) is beyond fantastic. Immensely superior to my 5.11 belt, for instance. Handily the most durable belt I own -- and the workmanship is beautiful.
6. I wear 36" pants. I ordered a large and wound up cutting 10" off it. So if you're not sure if you need the bigger size or not, you probably don't.
Yeah. Hopefully that wall of text addresses some people's existing concerns. Again, if you haven't picked one of these up already, my minor niggles shouldn't stop you -- at the end of the day, it's the coolest buckle and the most durable belt.
Cheers! RM

After my $51.00 experience with their Cinchy and CTi Belt (it was virtually useless and never should have been placed on the market), I can't recommend any of this company's products.

DkPondI had the same experience with this one. The buckle is too big to fit through Levi's, so you have to remove the buckle completely to thread the belt. It also comes loose in an hour or too. This product is completely unsuitable for holding pants up.

Arrived weeks early and took only two days to ship from the manufacturer. This is entirely unacceptable.

The belt looks really good, but shipping of $21.50 makes this deal unreasonable.

I commented below too - there's a massive hike from the previous drop in August, it was about $5 to south-east asia then. Wonder what changed.

Any recommendations for similar style belts that are more cost-effective and are of higher quality? Thank you.

I have purchased two of the Cobra Strap tactical double thickness belts and now purchasing the magnetic. I expect the same excellent performance and wear in the magnetic as the Cobra. My duty gear doesn't sag and I like the look and solid feel I have wearing the belts. The Massdrop price is great. As for the overall Massdrop pricing . . . quit your belly-aching; you've got to be selective in what you purchase and comparison shop. There is no "one-site" is the cheapest of the cheap. Besides, you get what you pay for. Just BUY SMART!

Is this the same width as the quicky? None of my pants have loops large enough to thread my quicky buckle through them, so I have to take the belt apart in order to switch it to a new pair of pants....

Same, I'd love to own one of these belts but don't want to deal with having to take a buckle off just to put it on a pair of pants.
UnwisefoolIt's the same as any other belt in that regard. When you're putting your pants on, thread the end of the strap though your belt loops, holster etc, and then into the buckle. Then use the quick-release functionality throughout the day as needed, no need to take the buckle apart and risk losing it.
If anybody has questions, just let me know!
Sorry to hear that! We can take care of it though. Can you send an email to us (support@sargentresearch.com). Just state that you need to exchange for a size B, and we'll provide shipping instructions. Thanks!

OK, does having super strong magnets close to your junk affect sperm production at all?
That's actually a serious question.
There are some of us who have struggled with starting a family, so it would be good to know if there's any known concerns about strong magnets and fertility.
Thanks.

@CarbonTactics So I'm sitting right at a 33 in pants size with an intent to lose weight (probably down to a 32), but I would like this as a carry belt with the double layer option, and tend to wear jeans or Carhartt style pants. Would you recommend a C or D belt in these circumstances? Thanks! As a note, I find the waist size vs pants size a little confusing as the difference appears to be quite drastic.
AtomkinderI would go with a C. To be 100% sure, you can measure around your waist through the belt loops, and use the "waist size" column of the chart. You might be surprised how big a difference there is between the label and reality. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
