iLoveTomb3rYThat's a long time to wait for keys man.. Oh well I guess I'll do more research to find what I like. There's no way I'd wait that long for the keys to come.. Thanks for heads up.

neopillNo problem. I started back in Feb, and I have just recently acquired my very first community keyset, which is the GMK Carbon. However before this set, I've dig very deep into the world of vintage keyboards. Almost all of them are lacking some modifier keys in order to be usable on a modern layout keyboard. However their low prices and the depth of history got me really excited, even more so than getting newly manufactured keysets. The process of researching, learning, sourcing them, and eventually harvesting them are much more satisfying than just handing out money to someone and get what you want immediately.
Vintage ones tend to be much less flashy than modern designs in general, and they are much less colourful. However a lot of the great hits in modern keysets are derived from vintage ones, such as Dolch/Triumph Adler etc. And they can be had for quarter of the price of new ones. Keycaps do not age at all given that no one is using them, so you can find like new sets quite easily. I'd suggest look into the Deskthority wiki to learn about keyset history, and get what you like.
Basically you don't have to narrow your taste into massdrop or community group buys. After all keycaps with cherry MX stem have been made since 1983, so there's 30 + years of keycaps you can choose from. If you find old keysets that doesn't fit your layout, most of the time you can get a matching modern spacebar or modifier keys to complete it.

iLoveTomb3rYThanks Tomb3ry...  I will certainly look into Deskthority wiki... I was wondering where I could find information and it seems sporadic. or it's not clear where to learn more about them except seeing them on MASSDROPS.   Even so I have come across few wacky ones that didn't look coordinated to me then again that's their preference..
I know when it comes to keys I want it to be clean and more coordinated looking sets. I do the like rich blue with white that I saw here in Massdrop. It made wonder if the Carbon and ivory colors mixed with the blues instead of orange - I'll bet that'll be sweet looking pimping keys.. This is going to be set up for my Mac OS world where I'd do alot of typing, video / photography editing. I already got my PC GAMING RIG built using Roccat RYOS LED with KONE Mice for gaming only.

neopillI agree it does seem sporadic, and it's quite overwhelming at first. There's way too much to look at, and you can really feel the weight of history. The Deskthority forum will be my first recommendation due to it's emphasis on the history side of things, it's where the people who document keyboards (thus the wiki) hang out after all. What I did at first was looking at posts randomly and got really confused with terminologies / names / cult on a particular brand or model etc. This confusion drove me to look into the wiki to learn more.
I think looking at people's new finds on keyboard should come first, as there are pretty pictures to make you curious and you get first reactions on whether you like it or not. If you do like it, then the wiki comes handy. After a while you get a pretty good idea of the main things that makes up a common enthusiast's taste. Deskthority's taste on keycaps trend towards subdued / coordinated / vintage looking. Geekhack trends more towards arty creative things, and like getting their hands dirty. Reddit /mk for knowing the lastest news on Groupbuys.
"Carbon and ivory colors mixed with the blues" - Wanting their own colourway is what makes people starting their own group buy on custom keysets/proposing new sets to massdrop. You can mock it up and show people as an interest check on forums, geekhack/deskthority (not reddit...). If you like blue, the upcoming GMK Hydro might interest you. It's not my taste though.

iLoveTomb3rYAhh I hear ya dude..   Anyhow about them GMK HYDRO.. I checked them out.. They do look good. I wouldn't mind getting those sets and wait for the orange/grey around 2018..  As long I have some keys to use for my MAC OSX set up then I'm good to go.. I will be using them for my Ergo. I haven' decided on which Cherry MX I'll go with. I'm waiting on the set to be sent to me to trial test each colors. Also two different set of rubber dampers to see which I like best for typing in MAC OSX environment.
Thanks for the tips and direction in where to get or learn info about keyboard mech stuffs. Till then...
