You really don't know what you're talking about. Outsoling material has no relation to construction. Dainite can be equally as expensive as leather soles. If you want premium, look for JR Rendenbach or Baker's leather sole. Those are couple of the leather outsoling options worth a damn.
Like AE, these are GYW. They probably use cork filling to fill up the extra space created with the gemming of the insole. Don't talk as if you know what is going on within CS vs AE - you cannot see the inner materials used.

rumata13Own both. Both have different quality ranges. AE Independence line is probably closest in quality to Carlos Santos. AE is the shoe of presidents. It is a cost effective way to quality. That being said, they are not on the same level as Carlos Santos. My Chelsea's are lighter then a pair of running shoes. Just a visual inspection and you can see the difference from stitching to the smoothness of the calf leather to the way the leather was cut. Pick them up and put them on and you can feel the difference in quality. If you were to draw a Price vs Quality graph AE is hard to beat. However, If you can get a pair of Carlos Santos at AE prices it becomes a no brainer.

Hi everyone! We relaunched these Derby shoes from Carlos Santos featuring Dainite sole, after a bit of confusion earlier this week. Our apologies for the inconvenience. These are made to order for us in Carlos Santos factory in Portugal -- some of the nicest shoes you'll own, specially at this pricepoint. Have at 'em!

A few comments on this drop... Bad, So-so and good. The Bad:
  • Drop (aka. MD) has provided ZERO responses or support on recommended sizing
  • PSA for Canadian purchasers: Drop uses DHL as their delivery service for these shoes. While I understand the need to ensure the expensive shoes are delivered, DHL is likely the worse delivery service in Canada. I expected duties and received a notice for $60 in duties which is reasonable. What was extremely disturbing were the brokerage fees and "additional taxes" which ended up adding another $70 to the costs. I would strongly suggest Canadians forego this drop as adding 30% to the costs is outrageous.
The So-So:
  • As others have mentioned, the shoes are not as narrow as portrayed in the photos. They appear almost a bit boxy.
  • Also mentioned: the colour is a bit darker. I bought the Braga and they are more muted orange-brown and not as lighter-orange-brown portrayed in the photo. I will let this slide as I know photos are taken under ideal lighting conditions and monitors vary greatly and colours may not be same as in real life.
The Good:
  • Despite not having any guidance on sizing after leaving two notes on here, the MD community did suggest that sizing was close to actual fit. This was bang on! The shoes fit almost perfectly. THANK YOU MD COMMUNITY!

Carlos Santos brand shoes are one of the few shoe brands still available that consistently exceeds quality, materials, craftmanship, and value for what you actually pay for. In nearly every case, with other shoe brands you end up over paying for what you actually get. Carlos Santos shoe brand occupies a nich in quality that can be likened to be being in between the bench grade and hand grade Crockett & Jones shoe lines. A very respectable place to be. Especially when compared to most shoe lines offered in America that wouldn’t be a part of any grade, but are being sold for the same price or even more (ex. Cole Haan). Shoes like those made at Cole Haan are even less expensive to produce, including underpaid labor which is a crime, and shoddy materials. The money you spend there is just going to the ridiculous profit margins that the corporation leadership at places like Cole Haan thinks it should be receiving per each unit of their terrible product. Carlos Santos shoes are very reasonable priced outside of Massdrop. A complete jewel to find inside Massdrop. I hope to come across this while active in the near future. Especially as they even allow you to choose which of the hand finished patinas you’d like the shoe to be finished in.
Regarding the belt, I see no recommended sizing info (usually 2" added to waist, but some companies recommend otherwise).
Regarding the regarding of the belt- can the dropdown be changed to just say Belt (+$80)- size 32, Belt (+$80)- size 34, etc.? It's supposed to be color matching, so whatever shoe color is selected should drive the belt color. I understand that may not populate a spreadsheet / database as nicely for you good folks at Massdrop placing the order, but as is, you'll already will need to inquire at drop's end for belt sizing.

Ulterior_MotivationIf it's like the previous drop, the belt is one-size-fits-all, aka the belt is size... 48 or something ridiculous like that. If you're smaller, you'll have to punch your own hole, and maybe cut off the excess if you don't like it.

thenarraturgistThat is an expensive belt for having to do the surgery by yourself! Just saying.... Sounds very disorganized for this price. I pass.

ProhibitionStyleThat drop just ended a few days ago. Wine Shadow is probably a more conservative approximation of Alentejo.

This is a dead thread and MD doesnt seem to give a damn. I ask them specific question on: - belt sizing as there is no option - matching belt colour colour option for the Alentejo shoes
No response after I've been sitting on it for several days. I bet its the same team that doesnt QA their typo and dont answer any enquiries. Shameful

macz0211Ah, well that sucks. Edit - after further research it seems you can get this shoe for about $270 through UK retailers Herring Shoes, Pediwear, A Fine Pair of Shoes (after excluding VAT), etc. I don’t see how this drop is supposed to be a good deal at $300, especially when factoring in return policies and more color options from other retailers.
