Keeps turning off too quickly, even when I touch the scale to change weight

The scale weighs but the auto turnoff is too short. The problem is even when I occasionally touch the scale to change the weight to prevent the auto turnoff from triggering, it still auto turns off and when I turn it back on, it auto tares the current measurement so it completely screws up whatever I was already measuring.
