Cherry Brown are a nice change of pace for a longtime Blue user!
Have always enjoyed the sound of my Cherry Blue switches in the past, so I was a bit hesitant on buying Brown switches. They turned out to be great - still tactile but quieter and smoother. Great price and made sure to buy off Drop so I wouldn't risk getting knockoffs.
I'm a CherryMX Brown guy, what can I say. These live up to my expectations, and the RGB housing w/ milky base still lets a satisfying amount of underglow reflection through the body, even in the absence of top-mounted LEDs.
Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts tend to use MX clones rather then authentic Cherry Switches and for a good reason. They are smother, better tactility and so on. These RGB reds defiantly a big improvement over my old stock in terms of smoothness. However they are still a bit scratchy IMO and if you are used to more premium feeling linear I'd say go with something else. I got them because I wanted to experiment with creating my own linear switches. Mixing housing springs and stems from other switches. (Yes crazy I know) but this is a hobby and one should not be afraid to explore the possibilities. Like this Cherry Creams for example: Lubed with Krytox GPL 205 G 0 buttery smooth....
I ordered 110 and they sent 90, i obviously couldnt tell until they were mostly in my board, they want me to send the 90 back so they can send me 110 instead... shit company and terrible first experience with this website. i will never buy again from here.
Good quality switches, fast shipping. However I ordered 110 and only got 90, so now I need to wait for another order to arrive so I can finish building a keyboard.
I bought these speed silvers as my first linear switch. I was using them for non-gaming purposes and that was a mistake. I was constantly misinputting with them, as their actuation force is so low. I could only make a case for a "gamer" to use these as their WASD keys, as using it for any other keys near their hand placement would result in lots of mis-inputs.
If I wanted a more all around linear, I would look at a Black Hyperglide (if I wanted to stick with cherry), or even better an Alpaca or Cobalt.
Got a set of browns for my new kb, and coming from outemu blues, they feel and sound much better imo...
BUT, they do activate by the slightest touch, which is proving to be a pain point for me, while learning to touch type in an ortho layout. Also, the bump is barely noticeable, so they end up being more linear than tactile in the end, I guess.
Would I buy it again? I'm still judging it, I guess it was a right step in discovering my switch needs and preferences. Right now, I wish this switch had more resistance and activation feedback.
My advice? Try before buying if possible, especially if you touch type.
Edit: Remember that I'm a noob, so take all of this with a spoon of salt too, I'm just sharing my opinion and personal experience so far.
