Why is this freakin’ pen in watch section?!

ihoryBecause most serious pen folks would not buy it, so they are trying to sucker the Chopard watch lovers into buying one. That, or their Data Science experts have determined that Chopard watch lovers may "benefit" from owning such a pen. I think they should list it with the Auto folks too, just to spread the love around. Edit: They already are selling to the Auto folks. Let's hear it from the Car Guys and Gals!

So why is this with watches. This pen took the place of a watch, not right guys. WTF!!! There's a spot for pens I've seen it, it has a pen. Just took of watch real estate for something that can't tell time. Please stop doing this.

I own the rose-gold plated version. Pen is made in Italy (as engraved behind the clip). Fit and finish are top notch. The lines running along the barrel, as seen on the photos, are not optical illusions - these are real grooves on the barrel, my guess is that these are machined, the fit is very, very precise, and feels nice in hand. The nib is very nice with perfectly aligned tines, and writes smoothly (soft, as common with 18k nibs). I like the pen, it is elegant and functional. MD's price is fair, on par with other 18k nib European pens in the $300+ price range. It is not a bargain but I didn't regret buying the pen. The MSRP is, in my opinion, inflated and was probably set for Chopard and racing fans. What do I not like? This is a regular-size pen - length and girth comparable to Pelikan M800 (nothing wrong with that size, just that I am gravitating toward large pens). The section is shorter than other pens comparable in overall size, and I found grabbing the barrel, not the section, is more comfortable when using the pen - others may or may not like it. My biggest issue with the pen is the engraving on the cap (emboss is probably a better word, since the letters protrude from the surface). There are two, one on each side of the clip, 'superfast' on the right and 'Classic Racing' on the right. For me, these really spoiled the look of the pen. Luckily, it doesn't jump out at me (wasn't that obvious) and I can choose not to look at these. I understand that the designer wanted to carve the words to be compatible with the engraved grooves and there probably wasn't a lot of choice on the fonts when carving. The words were well carved with each letter stood out sharply - good technique, good workmanship, it just wasn't that good looking (to me, others may like it). For the price, this is a pen that has a lot of details (lot more than other pens at similar price range). I can see how much effort they must have expended to produce the fine details - the barrel, the cap bands, the clip, the cap crown, and the engraving on the nib, all very nicely done and coordinated (as an example, the grooves on the barrel and the cap lined up perfectly when capped). I suspect they produced the pen for people who appreciates finer things in life - people who are attracted to their watch and jewelry. To a large extent, except for the words carved on the cap, they succeeded.

Chopard is not a fountain pen maker they specialize in high end jewelry and watches. So, I tend to steer clear from companies like these, because once the pen is gone, they are gone... No nib replacements (might not be a standard nib size) and repairs will take for ever if you need it. The pen looks great.. don't get me wrong. But, looks only take the the pen so far, plus one nib size fits all motto is not for me.

How about filler type? Kind of necessary info for a fountain pen.

I know this drop has nothing to do with racing or cars, I suspect it has nothing to do fountain pens either ;- )

Can't find any reviews of this pen, or almost any Chopard pen really. Really need to know the diameter of the barrel, cannot tolerate slim barrels of <11mm. M800 and above is most comfortable for me, any massdrop staff can tell me ?

PestyHi Petsy, The barrel at the grip section is 14mm at its widest point but tapers down to about 11mm. Hope this help!

The black and red is enticing, however the "Classic Racing"is off-putting. It's a soft pass for me (reserving the right to change my mind with mere minutes left on the drop).
