Since the pandemic started, I purchased many knives (posts list some of them). This CJRB Barranca is still my favorites. Nice sharpened right out of the box. Heavy with good weight. The color changed over time since I put it in my pocket all the time. Guess the temperature or heat made it. Highly recommended.
This little knife is pretty much perfect. The size and shape are right, and it's fairly thin in the pocket. I have the black G10 model, and it has just the right amount of heft. I like the clip which keeps it easy to get to and out of the way. The bearings are nice and smooth, allowing the blade to quickly open and lock with a flick of the wrist. Finally, the blade itself - I like the gentle curve of the blade, and the thick wharncliffe style gives a nice and wide back of the blade you can safely push on with a thumb if needed, for instance, when opening a big box..
This wasn't the first knife I ordered from Drop (my first order was cancelled), but I don't feel this was "settling", and I doubt it will be the last knife I get from this site.
Good quality for the price. Smooth action and decently sharp. Good feel in the hand. I got charged for the brass handled version-$10 overcharged. I would have preferred that one but it was sold out. I ordered the black g10 version which was supposed to be $10 less. Still not a bad deal overall.
Overall, I like the knife. The shape of the blade is useful. Great slicer. It came quite sharp out of the box. A few strokes across my leather strop, and it is crazy sharp now. I like that the blade is not a straight edge... there is a slight curve to it, enhancing slicing performance. One thing I’m not sure about and that is the copper scales. I read the specs, and noted the weight at being over 8 oz. But I was not sure how much a pocket knife would weigh ‘in the hand’ until I received it. This is theee heaviest pocket knife I own... a half pounder!! So I don’t have a real world sense as to how EDC this knife really is. Will update later.
I would recommend this knife with making sure there is a caveat for the weight.
Solid knife with a very smooth action for the price
I was expecting to get a different shaped blade with g10 that I could use as a beater knife. I wasn't expecting what I got. While the G10 isn't spectacular, it doesn't stop this from being a great knife. The flipper tab is rounded, a feature that I never knew I wanted. It's much more fidget friendly, as it's not as sharp or abrasive as a lot of flipper tabs can be. The action is super smooth and it just glides open. The blade came very sharp and I'm quite impressed.
This knife is insanely nice for the price point it is at. The build quality is very nice (always been a fan of CJRB) and the copper handle starts to look even better with more wear and tear because it tarnishes in a really cool way.
