Hello, may I ask what service you use for shipping these internationally (I am in Canada)? UK Post, FedEx, UPS or DHL?
If DHL then I'm out as I can't stomach their $15 'tax handling fee' on top of the few dollars I have to pay in taxes. I don't mind a few dollars of taxes; bogus 'handling' fees to extort a few more bucks from the recipients, that I can't stand.
By the way, isn't everything electronic now? Why should we pay $15 for DHL to (electronically) 'handle' five bucks?
@ClearCutCreation
Received mine yesterday (small sized galaxy swirl design). Fit and finish are better than the pictures show, and it looks great in real life. This was a silly impulse purchase, but I have no regrets.
Got my station yesterday and am really happy with it! Of course it's a dust / fingerprint magnet as with anything acrylic, but I knew that going in, so no big deal. That's about the only gripe I can come up with, otherwise it's really nice and looks and works great! I think the sticker on the lens said it was 200mm focal length, which seems to work well with my tops so far - just concave enough that the tops can't walk to the edge, but not so steep that they "hula". Here's an action shot with a sweet bronze over brass top from SimpleSpinners.
Approximately, how long will the glass lens last before you have to replace it? Do you offer replacements? I didn't see an option to add them to your order.
If one joins the drop, will one be able to customize the order? For example, if one likes the Galaxy Swirl with the plain black top plate, but prefers the yellow insert as opposed to the blue, will one be able to specify one's order?
"The removable glass lens at the center of each station measures 75 millimeters thick "
I'm assuming that means diameter. The glass is definitely not 75 mm (~3 inches) thick.
It looks like a square and trying to extrapolate from a 75 mm lens, I would guess the small spin station would have about 105 mm per side. What are the exact dimensions for the small spinstations?
Are the bolts at the corners decorative, or are they actually holding the acrylic layers together? (structural)
Looking at some of the other ClearCut station models on Etsy, it looks like they have the same holes which could be used for parking your tops, there are just no bolts in them. So I'm just curious whether the models with open holes are glued together vs. the acrylic on these models apparently being "loose", but with the bolts holding everything together.
Not really a concern for me since I have a problem and own more than 4 tops....just curious. :)
rsnblmnHi there,
They are structural, we made the decision to make these a little differently and in a more modular manner. This means they can be un screwed and mixed up if the desire takes you.
It also allows us to bring out other add ons in the future which will include storage options.
Also as spinners and top collectors ourselves we found that parking tops on a small station gets in the way so having a separate dedicated storage station was a better solution.
Hope that helps.
ClearCutCreationThanks. I actually like the look of the bolts on this version as well, so it works fine for me.
As for a storage solution, I'd prefer something with a hideaway drawer, but that would obviously take up a larger footprint to do. I currently keep my tops in a drawer when not in use because I don't really want my cats playing soccer with them while I'm not home! :)
