I have knives in both steels. To me, S35VN is a slight downgrade. Great steel but NOT better than XHP. Recon 1s can easily be found on ebay for under $90, including shipping.
For those that haven't used it, CTS-XHP is more like a true stainless D2 that holds a finer edge longer and slightly easier to sharpen.. Even a well done 440C isn't in the same league.
JcoolG19I just saw a post on another website that Cold Steel is going to start using S35VN in place of XHP because they are having issues with supply. I've only seen that mentioned in one place so far, but I'm thinking I'll go get a CTS-XHP at Amazon or BladeHQ while they still have them.
JcoolG19Depends what you're looking for in a knife. S35VN tends to be very resistant to things like corrosion. Check this out: https://www.bladehq.com/cat--Best-Knife-Steel-Guide--3368
Also S35VN can be found in excellent, less expensive knives like Opinels, one of my faves. Interesting to note is that LC200N is considered by that web site to be in the same tier as S35VN. LC200N is found is some expensive, not so large knives like some Spyderco Salt models. I just hope Cold Steel keeps producing knives that can bend, that was their appeal.
