What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

Unless you need to hotswap, USB is just not a great way to connect a keyboard. I personally never disconnect my keyboard unless i'm cleaning my case once a year. So hot swap ability means nothing to me. And i doubt it does for a lot of people on desktops. If it does to you, then you certainly have that option.
All said ps/2 is superior in performance and compatibility for a keyboard because a direct interrupt is instant and usb is not. ps/2 is also not prone to having problems when booting, or coming out of standby or hibernate and having the keyboard not work in bios ect. USB has had the same problems since windows Xp, and it remains still.
I have never used or kept a usb keyboard myself. For most people it may be fine, but there are many reasons it's not, as stated above, and for a gamer, or power user it's most usually not.
USB is good for quick connects, thumb drives, cameras, phones , external drives, basically stuff that you unplug when your done, that's about it.
If you have a suggestion on how to test it better, I can run that for you.
Edit : subsequent test showed clearly it is only 6KRO
I used this one : http://www.gigahype.com/nkey-rollover-test-page/
Interestingly, my Logitech G710+ showed NKRO, but that may be because it requires me to install Logitech software.
