What the heck?! These are $449 directly off the website. (clear lenses).
How is this a deal?? $479-$25 (clear lenses) = $454

FishieHi, That should be $50 less for clear lenses only. We’ll correct that tomorrow. Thank you for the catch! It is rare for people to order clear-most either wear readers or prescriptions so we had our focus on those. Sorry for the confusion!

craftopticsThanks for the reply. I’m surprised clear lenses are rare. If you don’t wear glasses like me there is no reason to get otherwise right?
Also why a whopping $250 for a tiny LED light, a wire and what essentially is a basic battery box?? With a little soldering and buying a few parts, I could easily make the same for less than $15. Is it just a single super-bright LED? How long will the batteries last? Have you considered a rechargeable lithium version instead? Thanks.

FishieIf you wear readers, they have to be installed in the frames. I strongly recommend reading the FAQs on our site as it is all explained. The light is a very bright single bulb high intensity LED. The value and cost is in the light intensity, small size, weight and color temperature, all of which are not easy to accomplish together. The battery pack is 3 x AA and many use rechargeables. Check the reviews on our site—the light is great.

craftopticsYes I have already read all of the FAQ information in addition to reviews and videos.
I did not see any images (even simulated) or video showing generally what one could expect to see before and after with the 2x enlargement. Also, based upon your different distance range of lenses is that to say that the focal length is only 2”? i.e. 12”-14” or 14”-16”?
Lastly, how many individual super-bright LED’s does the light comprise of? As for color temperature, they make a range of white super-bright LEDs that are well within the “daylight” Kelvin range 5000K+. Is this light dimmable? How long will it last on a single set of standard off the shelf alkaline batteries? thanks for the info!
oh one last thing that I honestly didn’t see talked about except for in the video with the lady doing beadwork I believe....but you guys don’t discuss that these telescopes are adjustable for one’s individual inter-pupilary distance. This is critical for a good fit. I’m glad these are adjustable...but within what ranges?

FishieHi, we don't show that type of image as it is really hard to show in a photo, particularly in a way that demonstrates both the distance and the field size. The key is that you can see as if you were sitting close to the object but from a comfortable posture.
Regarding focal length, the 2" you mention refers to the depth of field. The focal distance is the actual distance from your eye to the object. Once in that sweet spot, you will have the ability to move around a bit, generally a few inches in each direction and still see clearly. That's the depth of field.
Regarding the light, it is a single LED. 5300k. 55,000 hour life. The light is not dimmable and on standard alkalines lasts around 8-10 hours of non-stop use before fading. The key here is that the light is right between your eyes so everything you see is light without shadows, so even when it dims you are still eliminating shadows, which makes a huge difference in detail work as you probably know. If you can see it through the telescopes, the object will always be magnified and lit.
We don't talk a lot about pupillary distance as it often causes some confusion. When we make a set with prescriptions we also pre-set the pupillary distance according to the optometrist's measurement but it can always be tweaked a bit. They can accommodate PDs from the low 50s to the 70s so there shouldn't be an issue there.
