New issue with the LE, it's picking up the mics and feeding it through the audio. It goes away when the the USB is removed from the computer. And I fixed it once by "hard booting" both the computer and the device.
Are there any fixes? It seems like a software thing.
Edit: Totally a software thing. Turns out the Test in the Crystal Voice keeps turning on when it gets exited in the app in bluetooth. The software on the computer will show it off, and toggling it on and off will work for about 5 seconds. The trick was to pair it in bluetooth, turn off the mic test and turn off the sound blaster.
I would just like to add that AMD Ryzen does not like this thing.. It has a audible feedback popping/crackle about 3 times per song when using usb 2.0 and usb 3.0. If using Asmedia port it's reduced to once per song but I have got to be honest it's pissing me off. I tested (Tron Legacy soundtrack: Overture track one as a benchmark) and reproduced this on two Ryzen systems Asus Crosshair hero/Extreme one using 1800x the other 2700x both using x370 obviously. The popping sound was not on any Intel based systems I tested. My theory is that it might have something to do with the out sourced USB controller on Ryzen, being that Intel's is in house probably/potentially higher quality? I'm not a fanboy just a certified IT tech that wants to get to the truth no matter where that leads. Seeing as how AMD is unaware of any potential issues I'm on my own. Maybe I'll switch to i9 9900k when it is released in October. I hope this helps anyone that's looking to get this and has a Ryzen based system. The only way to get around the issue is to run it in direct mode which takes some of the kick out of the audio quality in my opinion. That being said I love my X7 Limited Edition! Some Reddit posts suggest it could be Agesa related, but it's good to know I'm not alone in this issue.

Make sure you are using something like 24bit/96khz. I had a LOT of background noise until I increased default (16/44.1) format. Play around and see if some settings fix it for you.

I did that day one...
Sound Blaster X7 or Joutenheim for gaming?

Sound Blaster X7
It's an Abomination! Of course I'm only referring to its looks, not it's function--but isn't that what's really important?
The app in the iPhone X is just unusable, I had to use an Android phone to change the settings. (Just in case someone was planning on using an iPhone X as remote)
I have a question about it's recording capabilities. I'd really appreciate it if an owner could help me out. I'm hoping to use the ADC to digitize vinyl to 24/192 when connected to my preamp via RCA. The user guide specs say " 24-bit recording sampling rates: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz, 192 kHz" But " 24-bit Analog-to-Digital conversion of analog inputs at up to 96 kHz sample rate" The first quote suggests that it could be done at 192khz, but the second contradicts that. Analog conversion being limited to 96khz under all circumstances does seem to be the better interpretation. However, it's possible that recording to a computer with the correct driver does support a higher sample rate, whereas plugging an iphone into the line in and playing back in real time through the headphone jack does not. (Doing that might make sense if you wanted to use EQ or clearvoice). The ADC chip used supports 192khz conversion, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience with recording to a computer at the higher samplerate.
I can get a cheaper audio interface that certainly allows 192khz recording, but the X7 offers some additional features that justify the higher price.
Am I missing something? Its 295 on Amazon with free 2 day shipping?

If anyone wants the LE version, Amazon stopped having price parity with this drop about a day ago, so MD is your only current choice pricewise. The standard X7 is actually cheaper on Amazon for now, as you say.
One reason to join this drop: if Amazon runs out of stock at the reduced price (which often happens) and you still need an X7 LE.
I'd leap on the Amazon X7 or the MD LE if the features weren't long in the molar (e.g., no DSD) and the hardware didn't rely on X7-specific computer/smartphone software. It makes me nervous when I approach the end-of-life cycle of an OS-specific product and the software can become outdated, but I can't adjust certain parameters with the hardware alone.
Which is a pity because the gaming features and I/O simultaneity look fun. Sadly, I haven't been using my PS4 munch o' late because I've had music and writing deadlines.
I love the fact you can use both of the X7's headphone outs simultaneously. That can be handy if your grillfiend likes to play games and/or gape at flicks late at night when the naybs might complain.
I have been using this for a couple years now. At this point I'm regularly using it with my Sennheiser HD700 and Beyerdynamjc Amiron Home headphones, along with my Sound Blaster XM7 book shelf speakers. I use the Bluetooth and built in equalizer and SBX functions everyday and the only things I definitely don't use are the mic functions and the scout mode. This is a great amp/dac.

Hey there!
Did you by any chance just do the latest Windows update?
Microsoft changed the surround recognition settings once again and it defaults units to Stereo.
Here's how you can get the X7 to be recognized as a surround device again:
(copied over from a similar issue on the Sound BlasterX Katana drop page)
------------------ In you system tray right click on the Speaker icon. Then instead of clicking on Sound Settings (where you think it would be!), click on Sounds. Then click the Playback tab. Then highlight the X7 (will be listed as a "Speakers" option). Then click the Configure button in the lower left hand side of the Window. The options to choose the X7 as a Stereo or 5.1 device will appear. This will ensure that Windows is recognizing the X7 as a 5.1 device.
Hope this helps!

Hi Ryan, Thanks for taking the time for answering me. I did what you suggested but windows did actually recognize the X7 as a 5.1 device. It showed the 5.1 speaker config and allowed me to test them. They all played the music during the test, except for the rear speakers, the same as when I did the test through the X7 control panel or cellphone app. Further testing actually allowed me to realize that there is a very minor sound outputting through the rear speakers, only perceptible when I turn up the volume to the max (they are powered bookshelf speakers). Is there any chance the dedicated amplifier for the rear speakers 3.5 jack output blew in the X7? Is it something that can be replaced? Thanks!!
There is no reason to buy it from Massdrop. Creative is selling it for 299,- https://us.creative.com/p/amplifiers/sound-blaster-x7 Besides, the mic-input seems to be bad, unfortunately. Still looking for a DAC with a good working mic-input for Windows and macOS.

ModMic4. I am switching between Mac and Windows and I don't want to switch all USB peripherals every time.
@Xyzac Maybe a solution, but yes, a bit pricy. Thank you!
Mrdk
I find that the mic input works great, but the array not so much. I use mine mostly for gaming and it requires a BT-W2 Bluetooth adapter to function since optical is one way. Using an antlion modmic with mine
Amazon has the X7 and the LE at the drop prices again as does Creative. Free prime shipping too.
I ordered directly from Creative and I got an open box from them (fulfilled by Amazon). Pretty unhappy about that--the box was unsealed the cords packages were clearly opened and scattered. The manual was even crumpled and folded up wrong. Creative's customer support doesn't seem to believe me. I sent them pictures so hopefully they resolve it soon.
On the other side can anyone with a unit confirm that direct mode has a low volume cutoff (it doesn't go as low as the default or SBX settings and just goes silent from volume 10 on down). Worried that I got both an open box and a defective unit...
Just wanted to throw out there for people who don't know, and for some of the people recommending other products. Are there better products in the price range? Yes. BUT one reason I purchased an X7 over a year ago, and continue to use it, is the major advantage it has over the competition, that being the X7 can mix all audio inputs together at the same time with independent volume levels on each and all controlled from 1 single unit. That alone was enough for me to justify paying the asking price for the unit over another brands.

Hmm, I haven't seen any recent communication from you in my mail box, just double checked my filter as well.
Supplice, send me another mail at the address above and we'll swap out the unit to see if it rectifies the problem. The engineering team has been unable to reproduce in house. The sound file is definitely not the intended output.
DigitalRonyn
Oh and if you don't hear back from me within the day you send it...something is happening on the server end with the mail..so pop a note here and I'll work on another way of communication with you.
Ok so I just checked with the rep and they’re sold out of atleast the regular black x7 and the white LE x7 is $330 only if you get it with those $99 speakers which she is checking if those are sold out as well
I've been monitoring the drop and was about to throw down before it closes, when I saw Creative rolled-out their Black Friday pricing today, offering the same price, free shipping (saves $20 from the drop) and allows extended returns through 1/31/18 should this not meet your needs. Also, the speakers are going for $79 directly from Creative. https://us.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-x7

Yeah and the speakers are back up to $100. I was honestly about to get them both at that price otherwise it’s hard for me to justify how much they want for the x7 compared to other popular products in that price range
Thanks for looking into this. From your comments later in the thread, appears that the Black X7 may have sold out at Creative. Sorry to see the window of opportunity was so narrow yesterday.
Is there any chance to get it with european power plug? Or is it US standard?
Load 1 more comment
Agree, mine came with a a wide variety of plugs too.
Valgav
Late on the reply here, but it comes with literally every power plug in the soar system...
Are we going to get an option for just the E-MU-XM7 speakers for those of us poor fools who already have the amp?
DogFort
For anyone who cares: Creative has a pre-Black Friday sale going with the speakers for $99 shipped. That is all.
Why do they not specify the power output for the headphone section?
Can anyone from creative or anyone who is monitoring this forum know that if I were get to get this x7 (can’t decide white or black yet) know if I get the bundle with the speakers added in this drop that they will/ will not be doing some type of Black Friday or xmas bundle for cheaper than what it would be here? Blackbwith speakers would be $420 and LE white $470 if not I’m in.
Does anyone know what price they had the x7 and the Creative's E-MU XM7 bookshelf speakers bundle price at before?
RareAirs
I was in on this drop last year at this time and the drop coincided with Creative's Black Friday sale. I ended up backing out of the drop and buying direct because I could get it faster. This year I'm on the drop again because it's only a $50 increase to jump up to the SE versus $100 last year. I'm interested to see if this is the same pricing Creative may have on their website come BF. I can't remember if there was any aggressive pricing on the speakers though between MD and Creative website.
This or the Mayflower Arc, which also needs 2-3 weeks of waiting but is only 229 right now.
Ares78
X7 has more features, but if you don't intend to use those extra features then go for the mayflower arc
joined the drop
I already have the creative e5 and have the sennheiser hd6xx on the way and I want it for gaming 75% of the time and the other 25% for spotify 320kps music. I wanted to upgrade to the modi 2 Uber which is $150 and the Magni 3 for a total of $250 plus cables. I am wondering if this is going to be better quality for my uses than the Schiit stack or if this is worth all the extra features... Also does this amp have more power than the magni3?
Load 8 more comments
Ah, thought you meant for magni+modi setup. (budget it is). Anyways, gl finding the one that fits you!
You can simplify the PS4+X7 setup a bit by using Creative BT-W2 for chat
How does it compare to Schiit Modi 2 + Magni 2/3 ?
Load 2 more comments
plus magni 3 has way more power than this, can even drive a bookshelf with them. this cannot. also with far less THD (noises etc.)
WellPlayed
if you're not or novice audiophile, and doesn't give a damn about hi-fi and more focused on gaming/convenience, this would fit you well. otherwise, go for the other, and do some research on how AMP/DACs work.
So does this only have as inputs, 1 toslink and 2 line inputs? So there's no way to have two separate 5.1 inputs? Or will a PC output through the usb. Looking to use this with both my pc and my tv setup which is right next to my desk.
MattDrop
Both Toslink and USB can be used as 5.1 inputs
I didnt get it from massdrop but I have been using this amp/dac for over a year. I am currently using it for my Sennheiser HD 700 and I am soon going to be using it for desk speakers using optical.
Does this drop really include the Creative Sound Blaster XM7 E-MU XM7 speakers!? It's a steal if it does.
IamDefiler
Clearly states they are a $120 add-on
rtd210
Sorry. Got a little excited there and didn't double check the description.
If you are looking for the best Bluetooth transmitter and receiver having features that included in a newer product, just got the device that covers up long range. With amazing feature the device automatically establishes connection with any compatible device that is permitted to connect to it. For further guide you can look at https://itday.com/audio-video/best-bluetooth-transmitters-market/

You might like Chrome for straight Wifi. Less compression. Not portable unless you plug into a battery. Peace!
Anyway to get the mic array or the mic input to work on xbox one s ? I currently have it connected through optical in from xbox to x7 and optical out from x7 to my logitech z906 5.1 speaker system and would like to know how can i get the mic audio working with the x7.
I've had the Sound Blaster X7 for a while and it's a nice do-it-all unit. My one complaint is the microphone input. When I use it there is apparently (my friends on Discord tell me) a terrible echo/feedback loop that destroys their ears and they mute me. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong?

I am having the same issue. My friends hear their voices echoed back with horrible distortion. It takes a few minutes of fiddling with everything, power cycling, changing inputs, random fiddling to get it working. I use a PC37X headset with the X7, and I'm not 100% sure that it's long cable isn't getting some sort of interference. I'm also not 100% sure this isn't a software issue either with the X7, my PC, and/or Discord. It's pretty infuriating to have a pricey setup like this that doesn't really work.
Did you wind up finding a solution?
DogFort
I didn't have the patience to use my friends as guinea pigs to test it for a solution, I just stopped using it. I now use the microphone jack on my Sound Blaster X Katana speaker bar, which is pretty high quality and doesn't have the issue the X7 had.
Today is the estimated ship date and we haven’t had an update since it dropped. Is everything ok with this order?

Ya I wrote this 7hours before I got their robo reply. Same, I should've jumped on it when it was on sale at amazon
I received my shipping notice today. boom. finally
Can you listen to audio on PS4 or XBOX while also listening to audio from your pc or iphone? My Astro Mixamp has this feature but I am interested in the X7 because it will have better sound quality.
hoping for an early ship!
