Product Description
Designed by Jeff Park—who works with and studied under legendary knifemaker Ken Onion—the Jumbones is the larger version of the Crossbones, a knife that won 2017 Import Knife of the Year at Blade Show 2017. The Jumbones, like it sounds, is a lot bigger than its counterpart Read More

This thing. I get that it's an award-winning design, etc., etc., but every time I see it I do a double-take as I look at the price, then the blade steel...back to the price, then the blade steel...price, steel...price...steel...Does it come with a free bowl of soup or something? A year long subscription to your choice of TV Guide or Reader's Digest? I have a knife roll filled with Boker autos, varying in blade length between 1.95" and 3.75", most with AUS 8 blade steel but a couple with XHP, all very well built with great action, and not one that cost over $75, and that was the price for the XHP blades. The AUS 8 models, even the jumbo sized model, didn't exceed $39. Apples to oranges maybe, but I still feel I'm missing something, or maybe I'm in a time warp back to 10-15 yrs ago when AUS 8 was considered to be a good mid-tier steel, like D2 is now?

HatuletohI have a couple of Bokers purchased well over 10 years ago. All one handed openers. All still operate flawlessly. It would be ridiculous to mention how low the prices were. But lately I've purchased four Two Sun ball bearing flippers all less than $30.00 each. All D2 steel blades. The operation of each is nothing short of flawless and build quality is solid.

When they say "big" here, are they referring simply to the size or is this also some sort of flagship model? In quite a few states this wouldn't be a legal carry knife. For example, 3.5" is the limit in my territory. I read where someone else said that it operated smoothly once broken in. Of the five ceramic ball bearing action flippers that I own, none required more than a couple of operations,if that, to operate smoothly right out of the box. I wouldn't pay the asking price for this one anyway. And that has nothing to do with the fact that it's over $20 cheaper on eBay. I wouldn't buy it at their asking price either.

This was the first 2019 CRKT I bought. I love the size and shape of the blade. Once mine broke in, it became incredibly smooth. Detent is a little weak. I wish it had some contouring on the handle, such as an index finger cutout, so there's a secure, obvious grip location. I realize they just scaled up the Crossbones, but my hand swims around on this giant featureless handle. If I'm choked up right to the flipper tab, it's okay. Overall a very cool knife.

Looks like an enjoyable knife. Unfortunately CRKT puts their name on so many turds these days, that I won't take the chance anymore. For the price, Aus8 is a bit underwhelming as well. Some of these big knife companies really need to get their sh** together, CRKT included. I wish Kershaw would do more US made knives like their M390 Link and Dividend. CRKT should do something similar.

Over-ConsumerYes, I have the Crossbones and am not a big fan. Also have the M390 Knockout and Dividend. Both are nicer and a greatnesses value with that steel. I have been carrying the Knockout for a couple months and just stropping has maintained the edge. Switch to the Dividend if my pants require something smaller and lighter. I know some do not like assisted openers but I am fine. I just want the knife to open smoothly no matter the mechanism. Also picked up some Cold Steel knives that were about $75(after EBay coupon) that were good deals with CTS-XHP and S35vn steel. There marketing is a bit juvenile but decent knives overall. I used to have issues with the Triad lock being to hard to release but these last few knives have been much smoother.

Same here. I like the OC3 fixed blade a bunch. I have both the Cruiser and some variation of the M-16 I picked up on sale and am not a fan of either. Do not understand why the M-16 knives are so popular.

I own the regular crkt crossbones and while the design and blade shape is cool and it has a great action with the ikbs bearings, the handle is riddled with alot of sharp edges everywhere which was disappointing. I wonder if that has been addressed in the jumbones? Yeah i can dremel ALL the edges down but jeez..
