Product Description
Based on the sinister balisong knife from Counter Strike: Global Offensive, the Butterfly Trainer is designed to help you practice butterfly techniques without worrying about cutting your fingers to shreds. At 7 ounces, it offers a solid feel in the hand, just like a real balisong, but its 440C blade is blunted for safety Read More

So, you know how at gun shows there's always at least one table selling cheap Chinese and Pakistani knives? You know how all the knives at those tabled are anodized all pretty, with designs of spider webs, skulls and whatnot? Those crappy knives that only exist to catch the attention of 12 year olds dragged there by their parents and the tactacool people who all claim to be ex-Army Rangers? This time, Massdrop is the table and these are the crap knives.
I concur again. Its a functionally deficient item in a catagory where pretty much everything preforms a function IRL. Knives cut, lighters make fire and flashlights let you see at night.
People have the right to do whatever they want. If people do stupid crap it's nobody's fault but theirs.
It still feels like a cheap facsimile of a bali is being flashed in front of us, as a shiny thing, when what we're hear for is sharp, cutty and pointy objects.
sethdomenicReally? Everyone? If everyone hated it then I doubt MD would keep dropping it or the community would keep voting on it to bring it back. What's cool about this is that's just a practice butterfly that looks just like the one from the extremely popular game CS:GO. If you aren't aware of the video game part of this drop, then that's probably why you don't get it's popularity. If I were to purchase a practice butterfly, honestly, I'd get one of these cause I've played the game a little and I think the quick and dexterous moves one can pull of with a butterfly are super cool. I'd rather mess around with a blunt edge for a couple months and keep my skin and fingers intact rather than buying the real thing and making a mess of my hands. Check out some of the videos of this knife. You can get crazy fast with opening and other moves that one can pull of with a knife like this. Just my opinion. =)
Neblin7I completely understand the appeal of this knife, but if you look through some of the reviews you'll find most of them have noted that it moves slowly, some also report they can have some mechanical problems due to cheap build quality, as well several users reported scratches or crappy paint jobs. I suppose this drop is just better as a display/novelty piece and less as an actual Trainer, since training with it would not simulate how a real butterfly knife would perform.
I got my package today and the knife looks sick. Only problem with it is that, right out of the box, I noticed some scratches and some problems with the paint on the handles. Is it possible to maybe exchange it? Should I go through CutSS or here?

EDIT: I saw another imperfection. Reminds me of a burn mark. Looks more like another paint issue.

I showed both imperfections on this picture. The hole in question is the top rightmost hole.
gravemind@bkupiec If you are having issues with your orders, definitely shoot a quick message to our Community Support team through the button in your Transactions page. They'll be sure to take care of you.
Dear Massdrop: I'm a relative newbie here but I ordered these trainers on the last drop and am clueless as to when they will be delivered. So, now you are offering again... Maybe I should reorder again and hope they get to me before my first order? Just because I live in Canada, don't think you need to deliver these by birchbark canoe or random iceberg. (Dogsled is too fast.)
I had a visual of a polar bear on an iceberg, my very distracted dog on a bobsled, and possibly a passenger pigeon flying quicker than the canoe's speed. All viable options but hopefully DHL got it there today for you and no animals were harmed. Enjoy! :)
AxeguyI'll check right away! Thanks. Neighbour sent up two green flares: they've got my mail! Wait... third green flare...means we've got pigeon for dinner! Yum!
(Thanks for your help/encouragement KatieA.)
I got this the last drop and it's probably the worst knife in my collection. 1/10 - would not recommend. It just looks cool, it's a beast to wield, uncomfortable out of the gate and wicked tight, and I am just completely unimpressed.
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ... its a bullsh1t blade .. really any that says this is good to decent .. are dumb .. i collect blades and this isnt GOOD ENOUGH TO PRACTICE for a real blade ... too haven and blades like this aren't heavy, they stab/ cut and are light. why ? because it to made to do quick damage. THE COLOR ON MY BLADES ARE SEMI-DULL. i picked the yellow/gold with the pink.. guys and gals, i got some brown caca with dull red.. piece of crap .... and i even payed an overdraft fee because massdrop took the money out of my account before the drop was over ... THIS IS CRAP .. will still buy from this site but never getting another knife here and neither should you.
g_stunaI agree with this completely. Waste of money - this really isn't good enough to practice with which was all that I was hoping for. It's a knife made to look pretty on a shelf.
I like the style but I am slightly more than adept with Butterfly Knives are there sharp versions available. I like the curved handles. I looking at the Golden and the Red.
Pigsta14Technically yes, however risking a clash with customs over a technicality is verging on belligerence. You know what this countries laws are like, you cannot buy something resembling or easily modifiable into a banned weapon. They'll knock on your door and have a 'chat' with you.
You can thank the IRA for that.
Drilling German home defense pistols into serviceable Glocks since 1989, you're welcome.
EDIT:
That being said, here is some advice. Buying in from Europe is much more likely to pass customs.
The Americans do their jobs well.
The French do not.
