Disappointed, just got email from MD that my order was cancelled because the speakers are on backorder and they don't know when they will come in.
Why sell something if you don't know it will be available???
Hi, What was the price of this drop? Thanks
shoval
The Zensor 3s that I got were $399.99, which was + $160, so I think $239.99 was the base price
I'm not sure I missed the comment: is the Black Ash option actually all black or just the front?
ganni-speed
Checked the Amazon. The Black Ash should be all black. Not sure why here in the list was like Walnat. :(
There’s a discrepancy in price for the Zensor3. At the top it said pico price + $160. At the bottom it’s +140.
Good price for these excellent speakers.
However, for anyone looking for small/medium bookshelf speakers I'd recommend the KEF Q100. I have a pair and will be buying another pair soon. KEF is selling them for $300 shipped. They're just great in every way, when judged by price, size, and overall value.
This is an excellent comparison of bookshelf speakers:

I got the ELAC B6 on amazon for under $200 shipped and tax (Prime). They do go on sale occasionally. I have only heard the KEF's once at a friends house. They were nice. But the B6's blow me away. Much of the audiophile reviews are of the B5's, but plenty include the B6. The B5 / B6 a year or two ago was considered as a "paradigm shift" (sorry, i am tired, I cannot think of a better way to say it) of price vs performance for speakers. A couple of my rich snobby audiophile friends were blown away also.
Not be an A hole, but the" negative" for the speaker was the look and the size. I do not understand buying speakers for their look, unless they are just really ugly or your partner is not into audio. If the size is an issue then why not get the B5? (This makes me really question a "Best xxxx" review, especially when i see a link for a garden hose review right next to it?).
So if just comes down to looks, the Dali's are great looking. They are not considered a bad speaker in the audiophile community, they have been around a few years, so the reviews I saw where before the ELACs came out.

I'm wondering what people will think of their successor: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B4Q5587/
The B5.2 and B6.2 are more comparable to the KEF Q100 because they are front ported. With the Q150 they moved away from that, interesting to see ELAC do the opposite move. In my current setup, rear ported is a no go.
Uhm, this is the normal MSRP of the speakers? At least it's the same prices that Hifi-klubben here in the nordic retails them for (same company that produces Dali).
So, I guess this is my fault for not actually digging deeper, but the black ash color way is an actual black cabinet, and not a different woodgrain from the Walnut.
It's not a huge disappointment, as I was already on the fence about the front panel being starkly different from the rest of the cabinet, but be aware that the black ash photos for this drop are not representative.
In the Netherlands, Dali Zensor 1 are 149 Euros a piece in the shop, Zensor 3 are 199 Euros a piece. Considering that, and since I already own the Zensor 1, this is not a good deal for me.
However, prices may vary per country, for those who do get a better deal here on Massdrop a short description of the Zensor 1:
Small, nice looking, well built speaker. They look great when you remove the grille, especially the white version, with the little red woofer as a nice contrast.
Good speaker terminals, will take 4mm2 wire (although 2.5mm2 will be enough in most cases). You could use banana plugs if you want to, but some plugs may occasionally rattle at high volumes (when connected to the terminals), so I prefer just using the stripped wire. Minor issue, no big deal.
Very good sound quality. Amazingly well resolving tweeters for the price. Can be a bit bright at times on my old Cambridge Audio amp, but I like that, so it doesn't bother me too much. I heard them on an older Yamaha amp as well, and then the balance is a bit more even.
The mids are spot-on. Great vocal clarity, good resolution. With some material (piano, some vocals, sounds with a "hard" tone) there can be a slight hollow / reflective edge to the sound. That is perfectly normal in this price range, it might be due to the fact that the woofer baskets are stamped rather than cast (the latter being more expensive) and / or possibly Dali uses a bit more basic internal bracing / damping in their budget models.
The bass is amazing for the size of the cabinets. Tight, punchy, and reasonably well controlled. For bigger rooms, the Zensor 1's might fall a little short, but they can go reasonably deep when placed near a wall, only lacking subbass. If you want to move massive amounts of air, however, you need bigger speakers (you cannot change the laws of physics).
The Zensor 1's work with all kinds of music, but if you like a big orchestral sound or metal on high volumes, the Zensor 3 (or rather Zensor 5 or 7) is the better option.
They are quite efficient, my guess would be that they actually do a little better than the 86,5dB 1W/ 2,83V @6 Ohms nominal impedance that's on their website, they easily go very loud with my rather old 2x 60W RMS (@8 Ohms load) amp.
All in all, great little speakers, especially considering their modest price.

I don't think you can purchase these if you are outside the USA.
Is this price for 1 speaker, or the pair? Confusing.
HamRadioANDAudioNut
1 single speaker. Not confusing if you read the bold lettering in the colored box in the DESCRIPTION area.
One speaker, no mention of warranties on the description, and most likely take forever to deliver. There's no value whatsoever. I strongly suggest not putting yourself in a position where you're going to battle warranty issues with MD and you'll be left hanging (like the position I found myself in with the TEAC AI-101DA DAC/Amp). Purchase it from Amazon or other authorised retailers instead.
I personally love Dali speakers. I have the Dali Zensor E-12F 12" SW, Dali Zensor 5 for fronts, Dali Vokal centre speaker, and a pair of Dali Zensor 1 bookshelves hanging on my walls for my surrounds. I'm fairly new to Dali but as soon as I got a pair of Zensor 5 I knew I had to get the rest so I progressively put together this 5.1 system. They're all hooked to a Yamaha rx-v683.
ChristianRD
they were pretty good with replacing my defective smsl ad18 i got from them with no troubles at all
So these prices are for only one speaker? Seems misleading..

Advertisement at half price for speakers under $500 a piece is not a common practice, for this category I would say that is misleading.
SirAxioM
Fortunately, looks like that has been changed to selling a pair now. That's how it should be. To me, despite what is in descriptions, it is ALWAYS misleading to list speakers as each. Only caveat would be if you're a seller and you list everything as each - even if sold in pairs. Being in the market for a nice pair of bookshelves, I can tell you how maddening it is to be shopping, to make a list sorted by price and have a $600 set of speakers come up in the $300 range with other inexpensive speakers because its sold as each instead of pairs. Its great to have the ability to buy one, just in case, but more often than not, you can't even do that if you wanted. So, kudos to MassDrop for changing it to the pair price.
can these be compared to the JBL's sold on massdrop? If so, any comments?

I was not very clear! The room is a closed work office. I won’t be blasting except on weekends when i’m alone. So 5-10% of the time( dont need top end just for this little time) regular daily listen to Tidal. hooked-up on either a (new incoming) sprout 2 or a Teac 101 or 301 if it drops and the price is good
thanks for the help! I’ve been in the headphone hobby for a few years now. And just recently got a good amp to push some speakers. So i’m star Fresh/new and need to be educated on the subject!
MD - your model option pictures do not show black ash, it looks like you're only showing Light Walnut and White.
As for pricing... I hear the complaints and have no problem jumping on MD about pricing. But... is this drop really that bad considering that Dali speakers are pretty hard to find in the US outside the dealer network?
"Cheaper on Amazon"... the Pico isn't even available on Amazon in the US. The 1 series is $400/pr and the 3 series is $600/pr. Amazon stock for the 1 series is always limited (or out) and the 3 series stock isn't much better.
No, you don't get the instant gratification of prime delivery, but that is really the only drawback.
Personally, I would strongly consider this drop if they had the Vokal center channel speaker as an option. I see the Pico as an upgrade to my 15 yr old Energy 5.1 speakers (I would keep my current sub). I won't join the drop without the Pico Vokal, because I have no idea when I would ever be able to find a Pico Vokal
dasman
Horizontal 'center speakers' typically sound slightly different than it's vertical counterparts, not a good thing. The best 'center speaker' is the exact same model of speaker that is used as the main L/R speakers. Unless it wouldn't fit under your display, I would recommend setting up a vertical Pico or 1 as your center speaker. I give kudos to MD for selling these individually instead of selling as pairs.
Does anyone know if the 3 will work with my APPJ mini2013?
MacroPower
Well, it would work but dont expect any high volume output. That AMP only delivers 3W + 3W at 8 ohm while the speakers expect way more input @ Recommended amplifier power: 40–125 W. Considering that the deal for the speakers is $520 which pretty much is the regular price in stores, do not bother buying as is not a bargain and for you it will be a poor combination.
As a per speaker deal this makes Massdrop basically slightly better than retail. Buying three as an LCR would be a decent deal though.
Edited for derpage.
BeardedAlbatross
Really? I checked Amazon and they're more expensive.
Afterman
Yeah I derped. The pricing is a bit better. Either that or I was looking at a third party seller.
Got all excited for the awesome price ....oh wait. Single speaker and "pico" model! lol @massdrop
while scrolling through the pictures the Zensor 1 +$25 and Zensor 3 +75. Wish these were the prices at checkout.
how are these speakers in relation to really good audio equip. I run McIntosh Amps and Pre-amp with B&W 804 speakers in my main system but would like to set up a smaller, but still good sounding stereo set up in my den. Would these be a good option for that purpose and what I am use to listening to? (I recognize the bass will be lacking)
rodH
I have B&W CM5s. These Dalis would be great for a den (I have only heard the 3 though...). I didn't even know there was a "Pico", I'm intrigued. *Thought this was an awesome price, then saw it was for a single speaker. Single passive bookshelf speakers? Please....
rodH
I used to sell these, and they do not scale very well with higher end equipment. They're fine for a den with an entry-level amp (think a small NAD or Denon/Marantz) but honestly i'd rather go for the B&W counterparts (686s2 or 685s2) for a den, as they're more beefy sounding, and they scale way better with good equipment. (Plus they are closer to the tonality of your 804s, Dali Zensor has a more bright sound, and can be a bit harsh in the treble)
If you are curious: I have owned the Zensor 3 - they have it all! Get them! You won't need anything else (I didn't even need a sub) I since upgraded to the Dali Opticon 2 - It's a 100% price upgrade for just about 20% sound upgrade. I'm happy... but not sure it was worth it since Zensor 3 are the best bang for the buck.
Why is it for a single speaker lol, these are obviously made for proper stereo setups.

Measured with calibrated UMIK-1 mic with REW. I only listen at those high volumes for a few minutes at a time when certain music plays (like electronic music, I only like some of it and only when very loud). Sometimes it just "feels" better than it sounds. But for just a few minutes. AVR: Onkyo TX SR706 AMP: ATI AT1506 (using bridged for front three channels) MAIN SPEAKERS: Chane A5 SUBS: (1) custom sealed 15" + (2) custom 18" Fi IB ROOM SIZE: 18'x28'
Currently I am looking for two or three speakers for a smaller room. The Dali looked promising because of transparent clear sound, until I read that they distort at higher output, same problem I had with my previous JBL Studio S312s. As mentioned earlier, I'll probably stick with the Chane A1 or A2 since I know they have high output with little distortion.
gstupak
Okay yeah that seems like you've got it pretty well figured out. The Chanes you have are no slouch either.
I demand a WORLDWIDE availability.
I own the Zensor 1 and they're an unbelievable sound for the money. Great drop here! Gets them down to the same price I got them for in India. They pair extremely well with Marantz amplifiers.
Wow, can’t believe this happened. Massdrop knows How to take my money. Can’t justify spending again on this. But who knows, might give in and end up joining this drop as well.
I have the "3's" since 2016 coupled with a 6005 Marantz amp : apart from a slightly loose base response, quite remarquable value. Spécial mention to the accurate treble and the "big sound".
If only this shipped to New Zealand. I don't get how things like the teac301da got to be shipped around the world yet it only supported 110v 60hertz. Does Massdrop know what they're doing anymore?
Dammit ! Why can't quality drops like this ever be available outside of USA, I live in Australia and I would have been all over this in a heartbeat specially at this price. I just wish I knew what was so legally prohibitive about making this drop available internationally.
Ershad
JB HIFi have the Zensor 1. Not cheap sure, but worth it I reckon. I use comgateway for places that don‘t ship to AU and I’ve purchased plenty of items from Amazon using ComGateway. I suggest avoiding these from here in MD. If you absolutely must have the Pico, get it elsewhere.
