I finally had a chance to look over my entire set closely and I have to say I am not too happy with it. This is my 3rd SA set from Signature Plastics and this one has a ton of defects. I have a lot of defects that look like cracking in the face of the key and a few that look like there wasn't enough plastic in the mold. I also have some scratches on the side of a few keys mainly the 1.25u and 1.5u keys. Here's an album I threw together, I don't have a great camera but it should get most of the point across. http://imgur.com/a/7maSY

Rarabka233Contact support, they will help you with that. So many caps look like no quality control at all. WTF!

Rarabka233Wow, it looks like you got quite a bad batch. The faces of mine are mostly fine, the only one that has a slight mark is the right shift. I did notice the scratch marks on the bottom of the front edge of some of the 1.25u keys though. The 00 key also has the right-hand 0 thinner like yours. I've never has another SA set before, so I don't know what the normal standards are, but it does seem a bit hit and miss as to the QC.

Rarabka233Thanks for those photos. The quality seems to vary wildly among orders. Mine doesn't have nearly this many issues. As Makami mentioned, this is a lack of QC.
The bites/chips along the bottom edge are a production problem. I've never seen this before in an SP set. Something in the molding or extraction or the handling during cooling phase created those marks. They would probably be hidden in normal use on 99% of keyboards but that doesn't make it OK. I'll ask Yanbo what our options are. Since the frequency and severity of the chipping varies we might not be able to address this from the top down as part of a reorder.
The branching hair lines are swirl marks or "weld lines". I explained this a few pages back but it's basically the leading edge of the plastic, as it gets forced around the corners of the mold it begins to cool. When those leading edges collide on the opposite side they don't blend perfectly because they're cooler and this creates the appearance of faint lines. SP has techniques they can use to minimize swirl (like tweaking the mold temperature) but it's still almost impossible to eliminate completely, particularly from the larger keys -- I think just about everyone's Right Shift has some degree of swirl, for example. This is not considered a defect, however this might be the most swirl I've ever seen in an SP set. It's possible that the color plastic we chose for the mods has an effect on showing swirl more than usual. I'll inquire about it.
Update: Yanbo and I are finalizing our report to SP for the replacement keys. I'll post it once it's been accepted by SP.
