Is anyone else hearing some hum at zero volume? Even on DT990 600ohm i'm getting fuzz at low volume.
Edit; also seems somewhat unbalanced, slightly heavy to the left.

izzy411No hum. Mine is heavy on right side at very low volumes but once at/past first screw location seems to even out

BooMASSIVEthe hum is normal until the tube burns in. mine had a bad hum but after about 100 hours of using it, it faded away and now there is no hum at all. headfi.org has some very good info on the Darkvoice

izzy411Mine is dead quiet. Like, isolation chamber quiet, even with gain at max with no audio source... no balance issues either.

izzy411I've tried lots of tubes with my DV and many of them do hum. Hum moves between channels as you sweep the volume. Other tubes are very microphonic. Comes with the tube territory I think. Sometimes the hum goes away after breaking, sometimes it doesn't. I do recall my stock preamp tube humming but it went away after a couple days and now it sounds clean. I bought an EH preamp tube and it had a bad hum that never went away, so I returned it. I currently use an old RCA 6080 tube in rear spot (conrac brand), and an RCA cleartop 12AU7 in the preamp slot on a cheap Chinese adapter from ebay. Not as pretty but sounds great and good 12AU7's are easy to find.

trapnineNot sure if the 12AU7 is safe but I will look more into this. As far as tubes look into the European 6080s. Specifically the Telefunken can be found quite often on ebay for cheap. Going RCA isn't really an upgrade from stock as the chinese tubes it comes with are very good on their own. For the output tube going Sylvania is a good choice for 6SN7s. (the 6SN7 is actually there as an output tube, try not to do too much coloring with this tube as it is meant to act as the output to the headphone/preout.)
Mullards/Sovtek stuff might be good choices for the power tube depending on choice but expect to spend more money and possibly get coloration you don't want. The output tube doesn't need to be as special and should be as clean as possible. Humming moving between channels or not going away can be the fault of cheap/underspec 6SN7s. Not all tubes were meant for hifi - go into your purchases knowing this and you'll save money in the end.

silverbot01Cool, thanks, I'll check on tele's. I've always thought they were expensive but will look again. I'm pretty happy with my current setup.
