What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

My understanding is that Das has a lot of fan boys, but the quality has dropped a lot in recent years. Many find the fact that there are well known issues that the company has not resolved on their "premium" (read: high price point) boards unacceptable (not a das exclusive issue, this is true for other boards as well). Kbp is newer to the field (founded in 2013)
This is a full sized keyboard, meaning it has the attached numpad, whereas the KPBv80 is an 80%/tenkeyless board. Depending on your needs/wants (desired smaller form factor vs more utility), one may be ruled out for you.
An area where the kbp clearly tops the das is options: full variety of switches, some (including equivalent mx browns) with dual leds, vs just the blue of this das. (Personally I would never buy a straight blue backlit keyboard, far too harsh on your eyes). However depending on what option you were to hypothetically go with could make the kbp more expensive than this das drop; one could argue you would be getting less for more money.
Kbp also has a detachable cable, whereas this das does not; the pro/con status of this, varies from person to person. (Removable cable introduces a point of failure; however if a nonremovable cable breaks you need a whole new keyboard instead of just replacing that one inexpensive piece)
In the case (hah. Pun) of the kbp there's multiple cable routing options to keep your desk tidy. Kbp is Also easily mod-able as you can get a tkl aluminum case for it.
Unfortunately the winner of the "better board" title is totally subjective, but I hope I laid out some comparisons for you to judge the weight of what matters for you. After a great deal of deliberation scouring the internet, I went with the KBP v80 as it best fit my needs and wants without breaking the bank.
If you've got the time, read comments on past drops, look at reviews on amazon/mechanicalkeyboards.com, or watch reviews on youtube. There's also writing ye olde pro-con list. Best of luck!
