What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

No no no, let's forget that. They probably lost your order and forgot about you! Better post on this discussion thread instead of having patience or doing the logical thing of opening a ticket.
You can fault Massdrop on a lot of things but they don't physically manufacture or produce SA keycaps- 90% of the blame on the delays for this drop are with SP and their piss poor manufacturing planning. That is a widely known and accepted fact.
Ultimately, you should've never assumed 9/11 and stuck with 9/29- y'know... curb your expectations to avoid the tears. Or don't, and live your life constantly angry over your constant lust for keycaps.
On the upside, Dasher/Dancer is on its way to everyone. That is true even if there aren't tracking numbers to prove it (to everyone's satisfaction) just yet. These beautiful keycaps will last nearly a life-time, and years from now nobody will remember that they had to wait a few extra days/weeks/months to get them. They'll be too busy typing on their exquisite keyboards!
Jesus H Christ. You make me feel like I'm on fucking crazy pills. You got your shipping notification. Why do you care what anyone else has to say on the matter?
Edit: I'm not angry. You an infer that if you want, but I'm not. I live a busy life. Keycaps are but a tiny fraction of it. I'll get them when I get them, but it's my right as someone who's given them a lot of cash to share my feelings on things just as you have. We can agree to disagree.
As for the 9/29 vs. 9/11 thing, we have to look at it this way: MassDrop picked a date with a LOT of wiggle room (9/29) because the penalties levied by the FTC if they didn't meet that deadline would have been severe. There was always every hope that delivery would occur much earlier than that, though how much earlier was simply impossible to determine with perfect accuracy. However, once it was clear that the keycaps were on their way to MassDrop, they were able to offer a more optimistic date (9/11) in an effort to give everyone some good news to chew on.
But for any given date offered, you have to add a few days of variability simply because there's no such thing as MassDrop Prime shipping.
In the end, I'm still getting the caps (well, hopefully) earlier than I expected (early October). I'm just saying from a communication perspective, they could really modify some things to keep from getting some of the backlash they routinely get.
Have a good one, all!
1) MD controls all communication around this, and it's been spotty at best (transaction statuses not being updated, lack of status updates to the thread) and incorrect at worst (The comment above of "I wanted to share a quick (and overdue) update on the Dasher & Dancer drop. All planned units have reached our warehouse and are being prepared to ship out this Monday (the 11th).")
2) Handling of the opt-out/opt-in was very disconcerting as it felt like we would be dropped from this drop -- My own submission to the google doc did not reflect any updates to the transaction status for 5 days, and only after opening a ticket with MD support did this get resolved (that was a pretty friction free experience, actually). I was told that this process was manual, and I lost confidence a bit there -- confidence that my order wouldn't get lost in the paperwork shuffle. This was underscored by the fact that the miscommunication around the 11th date made me worry that perhaps my order was just lost -- something that I wouldn't have assumed a year ago, but now I feel could be a very real end to this whole thing.
I really appreciate you stepping in to help shed perspective and empathy on this situation, but I don't believe that anyone's upset (in this recent thread) with SP -- we're upset with the recent miscommunication.
-- my $0.02 :/
As to why nobody was reassigned to his duties while he was gone is anybody's guess. Maybe MassDrop underestimated the intense scrutiny the shipping window would come under during Yanbo's absence.
Now, the whole opt-in thing was a narrowly averted disaster, IMO. I think we can all rest comfortably knowing MassDrop won't ever do that again!
