he soundstage is tighter due to the increased absorption of more early reflections before the sound enters the ear. This allows for less phasing and a truer sound. lol Audiophile earpads. This is almost as good as the audiophile faceplate for your CD player.

CalaverasgrandeWhile it is true that reflections or ”echoes” will somewhat mask the soundstage, and we agree that you are your own best judge (we try, but the best measurements don't account for everything!), we will say that it is a modest change on headphones with already very good soundstage. Earpads “make contact” with the path of the sound traveling to your ears, as well as directly influence the distance between the driver and your ears. Are the pads tall? Do they angle the driver? Are they sealed or “open” to let sound and air pass through? Even the material and density of the “wrap” makes a difference... you can hear a difference between Alcantara and Sheepskin.
