Hmmm, pass. No Extra Fine nib option on offer, and more expensive by almost 10% (shipped) than at least one current Black Friday promotion elsewhere, even if I were prepared to forgo an EF nib. I just cannot trust German pens to truly deliver fine lines with a Fine nib, as much as I regard German precision highly.
Who am I really, you question? I answered, over in the other discussion thread. My orange Diplomat Aero with an EF nib, ordered from LCdC on 3 November 2018, is due to arrive in the post in the next several hours, or so Australia Post advised me. I'm already eyeing the charcoal coloured one as a future purchase, pending whether I think the EF nib actually writes finely enough for the grade. If Massdrop is going to offer that pen for no more than US$115 shipped to Australia and with no GST slapped on top of it, I'll be happy to consider it. I'm also looking at perhaps getting more Platinum #3776 Century celluloid models with F nibs. I just bought the brown tortoise model from Amazon.com.au (sold by Amazon US) for the equivalent of US$189, shipped to Australia and GST inclusive. If Massdrop can offer the stone wall or koi carp models for no more than US$204 – that's US$199 plus a nominal shipping charge of US$4.99 – all up, I'll be interested. (LCdC is currently offering the koi carp model at US$266 all up. I'm not buying.) <EDIT seq=1 date=2018-11-28> For what it's worth, the two articles Australia Post advised me on (and indeed delivered yesterday) turned out to be something else. I got the post office staff to look in their back-office systems (which shows information not available to senders and recipients by self-service) about the two purportedly 'untrackable' articles from the Netherlands, and they said the articles are still with Customs in Sydney. Bummer. <EDIT seq=2 date=2018-12-11> I just got back from an overseas trip, and finally managed to get my hands on the two packages from LCdC that were delivered a day too late, such that I could not collect them before I left. Both parcels were opened and resealed for Customs inspection; one was by Australian Customs (so says the green resealing tape), and I can only assume that the other one was by Netherlands Customs officers because the white resealing tape on that has Dutch words printed in bold along its length. That would account for some of the delay in delivery, and I cannot exactly blame LCdC for that.

Maybe Lamy changed that recently, for I did not pay a premium on the Dialog3 EF

I bought this GERMAN made pen from a reputable INTERNET pen vendor as the design looked cool, i ordered a 14kt medium nib, but I have to say it was a great disappointment. The pen is very photogenic, its nib looks sturdy and attractive, but in reality the pen does not feel comfortable when i hold it; it feels heavy and lopsided, but most importantly the ink-flow is terrible and the medium point nib writes like a fine point. It is scratchy and the ink dries up fast. I tried using the best inks, I wrote on fine, smooth stationery and it was of no use. I soaked the nib overnight in warm water, it flushed it with an ink cleaner and still it did not help. I have another Diplomat pen with a 14k gold nib and it has the same problem with the ink flow. So I do not recommend this German brand. I am sorry if I have offended Diplomat fans, but I had to present my views here to see if the problem is me and not the pen. THANKS .

mainak12Mainak, sounds to me that you have a defective pen. I got the gold M nib in the last drop and the pen and the nib are excellent. I am using a difficult ink in the pen (Diamine Ancient Copper) which has a rep for coagulating and needing some supervision. The ink is working fine and the pen, even though I have left it idle for as much as ten days writes well without skipping and I never washed it out before first use. I will clean it when I am done with this ink, of course. The pen and the gold nib is terrific. The only pen I think which outdoes it on a dollar value basis are the Lamy 2000's but they don't have the same heft and appeal of the Diplomat.
I have about ten FP's and really like this Diplomat along with the Lamy the most.

Way to go MassDrop. It's $129. with free shipping from Amazon. That's $4 more with Amazon's return policies.
The better deal might be for MassDrop's gold nib pen which costs 125 + 70 = $195. Vs. Amazon's version at $229. So the question becomes: is a $34 price reduction equal to Amazon's liberal return policy?

I would have hopped on this drop if I hadn't just bought a Faber-Castell Ondoro from Quill.com. I'm still tempted to get this Aero though. Coin tossing time now

Received this pen last drop, and while it is great in the looks department and a phenomenal writing experience, the cap seems to be terribly loose and does not take much force at all to release. To the point where it came uncapped in my pocket. Black pants, blue ink, not a complete disaster. It did however wreak havoc on my underwear. Is anyone else having cap issues, or am I just lucky?
SilchasIf you have a pen with a loose cap, by all means work with Massdrop to get it back to us for repair. Diplomat pens are supported with a solid 5 year warranty, and your new Diplomat should never leave you disappointed. Also, note that the cap sometimes may exhibit a bit of two step posting, with first a soft fit followed by a firm click. If you don't get the firm click under decent pressure, then the pen needs to be repaired immediately by our factory.
Does the finish really look this good or are these pictures CGI?

TherocIt's the real deal - very nice matte/satin finish on these. Excellent machining and finishing in Germany, and they took feedback from the community that resulted in a longer plastic sleeve inside the cap to make sure it doesn't damage the barrel from being posted repeatedly.
JonasHeinemanThis pen, for me at least, puts the Faber Castell eMotion and Ondoro to shame. Problem is, I was not considering either of them. I will probably join this drop. However, I will have to strike one or two other fountain pens off my wishlist. Would be nice if we could have some writing samples for each nib size.

There is a new orange colored one. Can you offer that in a new drop? What was the price of the now inactive drop?

@DiplomatUSA My Aero is my daily carry and is truly excellent...except the cap, while not at all loose, or in danger of poping off, rotates freely. Is this within design tolerances or is mine just a bit loose? But the pen is completely dreamy otherwise! And the nib is beyond buttery...
Hi,
My Aero’s cap does not close at all now. Can I get it fixed?

JWalker16Well yes and no. I've gotten another Aero since then and they REDESIGNED the cap. It is infinitely better. Zero spinning and more snappy. You can get (pay for) a new cap directly through DiplomatUSA.

Can anyone who owns one post a picture of the fountain pen capped? Massdrop neglected that perspective.

I am super interested in this pen, but have a burning question (ideally for the Diplomat USA rep here, but also anyone with firsthand experience): The description notes the steel nib has a bit of flex, but most reviews describe it as stiff. I already own an entry-level Diplomat Magnum and think that steel nib is great; would this one have a similar amount of spring? Thanks!
So glad that you are pleased. We try our best to accurately portray these fine writing instruments and then let the performance speak for itself. And rest assured that we stand behind the product solidly , should you ever encounter a problem. Enjoy !

DiplomatUSAHey! What about the Gold Nib? How springy is it?
So I received mine yesterday and I have to say it looks even better than in the photos. Its ink-porn; would definitely make the centerfold of Pen'house (Playnib?). Ok, enough of that. This pen is not just pretty though, you have to handle it to appreciate just how well it is made. Just incredible. I'll join this one again when it comes back. Next time I'll get a gold nib; this pen is too good for plain steel.
