After spending some time typing with the MT3 profile, it has really grown on me. The scooped tops give your fingers a nice place to perch and the initial "sandy" texture has either worn off or I've become used to it. The sound is a nice thock rather than the higher pitched clack, aside from the 1.75u keys (capslock and right shift) that are a little higher pitched and slightly hollow sounding. The color is more off white or bone than your average BoW set, but it works really well with my white ID80v2. I didn't think that the slightly deeper scoop to the F&J keys would be noticable on the home row, but it is just enough to make a difference.
I may have to spring for the media icons for the Function row. I would also just caution that the multi-colored accent mod kit doesn't include a capslock or backspace so keep that in mind when ordering. A few people on reddit were looking for extras, having ordered just accent mods and alphas to fill in a 60% board.
Great dye sub set, New profile for me but really enjoying it. Caps are solid and legends are clean, sound good like sa abs slightly higher pitch bottom out. The color combo with the clear case is exactly what I wanted, a little light bleed through the caps and bright enough with South facing leds and the glow tactiles.
Hey!
Super excited to finally be able to run this project :)
I will modify this article with future updates.
Thank you very much to everyone involved who made this project possible
By the way, huge thanks to @Oblotzky for the amazing work on the renders <3
I like the icons I wanted to see if I could add some to my existing serika caps. I would getthe alpas as well but I don't like that they italicized. I love the way the katakanas look but, unfortunately Its not my language. Thanks for your help.
And/or a white with whatever grey Apple uses on current products such that it would coordinate well with the modern silver/white color palette? Love the feel of the mt3 profile, love the variety of icon caps that can actually hint to the macros one can bind to a QMK F row.
They could let buyers know about delays at LEAST a couple days before the day it’s supposed to ship instead of sending an email at the end of the day like they totally forgot. Hell even the CSR I contacted was out of the loop on the 23rd.
Biip said this was still in production and estimated to be done June 1, so Drop absolutely knew this wasn’t shipping at the beginning of May. It takes at least a week to receive, sort, pack, and ship keycaps. But instead of doing anything, they just waited almost until the last minute.
Really I don’t care about timelines or delays at all. I’m fine waiting. My issue is with these vendors and sellers treating buyers like their support means nothing and that their legitimate concerns and questions are just an annoyance/burden. Spending $$$ on f**kn keycaps but somehow it’s up to us to post screenshots and timelines to keep other buyers in the loop. Sheesh biip didn’t even check in on this until the 24th lmao. Top notch from Drop and crew, as always.
jaybeeayyyI think its totally fair to criticize the communication between Drop/factory/designer/customer. At this point Drop has done enough keycap groupbuys to know the general idea of what is going to happen and what the community expects (or alteast would like). I have a sense Drop has difficulty getting straight answers from the factory but thats the cost of doing business overseas where you can't literally drop (no pun intended) in and ask WTF is going on. Customers should see that cost (savings) reflected in pricing and its unclear if it is (domestic production at a place like SP generally is more expensive so we might be seeing the savings).
The function keys don't have the media icons on them :( I gave this feedback on Geekhack but it was either too late or no one cared. Eh. So basically this can't actually replace an actual Mac keyboard and isn't designed for Mac users :(
Of course they're not useless to everyone, it's just a shame that they don't cater to the market to which they are supposed to cater.
It's not arbitrary at all, things aren't arbitrary just because they don't matter to you.
And that last line, just extremely childish. I prefer for my keys to show the meaning they have, it's that simple. Just because you can't comprehend that doesn't mean that it's not valid.
Am i missing something or is there no ortho kit? (EDIT: saw the Nomad kit) Also the ergo kit leaves something to be desired. First let me say i commend you for using R5 in the kit, not enough sets do that.
That being said
* There are NO blank 1.5u keys to fill in gaps where the legends don't match the user's keymap
* The ONLY choice for R1 upper left is Esc (no tilde option?)
* The ONLY choice for R1 upper right is backspace (even though a backspace key is included for R2 - what are the users who use the R2 key supposed to use for R1, a second Esc key?)
* The only choices for R3 are caps lock, control and enter. (no ' key?)
* R4 looks ok to ME, but it's still very limited with only shift and menu being choices. (i only see it as ok because i use 2 shift keys, I think others may put enter on this row?)
* the center columns assume that the user is using an ergodox even though the lower corners don't. the lower corner 1.5u keys are a GIANT step in the right direction, but the center column on other ergo boards are commonly 1u keys at this point. (sol, mun, boardwalk all have 1u options for the center columns)
Keys that would make this ergo set ideal for ME:
* R1 1.5u Tilde
* R2 2x 1u <something> (not pressed as i use artisans here)
* R3 2x 1u <something> (not pressed as i use artisans here)
* R4 2x 1u <something> (not pressed as i use artisans here)
* R3 1.5u FN or Esc (Fn is MUCH more common here than esc.)
* R3 1.5u '
* R5 1.5u Enter
Also 1 or 2 R5 1u blanks might be nice.
The pricing is wrong! In the Overview it says, "MODIFIERS - $43 / ACCENT MODIFIERS - $25", but it's charging $42 for the Accent Modifiers when adding them to the cart.
So which is it, $42 or $25 for the accent modifiers???
Seeing as the NOMAD - $35 (50 keys)/ ACCENT NOMAD - $25 (28 keys) have a $10 difference between the prices, how can there only be a $1 difference between Modifiers $43 (75 keys) and Accent Mods $42 (36 keys) be a justified price at more than $1+/per key.
@YanboWu@biip@Drop
dno87I sure as hell won't be buying at that price with the number of keys to price ratio being what it is -_- The accent modifiers should be like $32. $42 is a ridiculous price for those accent mods.
AstonJThis is the exact set I would like to order, but it appears it's a combination of three sets, with many from "Modifier" left unused. Is there a way to order this set without overspending for caps that are replaced with "Accent Modifiers?"
Trying to find a good plan for Planck keyboards, not sure how I feel tbh :/
What do you think? Perhaps for this set less may be more - wonder what the creator of the kit had in mind for 40% keyboards? What does everyone else think?

AstonJThanks for posting these mocks. I was also wondering about the accents for 40% and/or orthos. I'm also feeling that less is more here, so all the less reason to justify purchasing the accents I think. A lot to pay to only use a handful of caps.
