A New Custom Keyboard Experience—Now Compact

With the CSTM80 and its interchangeable decorative top case, we made a big statement in the world of keyboard customization. Now, with our next member of the CSTM family, that statement’s staying just as big—but the board itself is getting quite a bit smaller. Introducing the CSTM65: a compact enthusiast desktop centerpiece made for game-changing customization. The game changer? An innovative new component, purpose-built for personalization. We’re calling it the decorative top case, and it fits magnetically—and seamlessly—onto the CSTM65’s specially designed polycarbonate case. It’s a breakthrough in the world of keyboard modifications, and we’re rolling it out in more than a few styles to match community-favorite keycap sets, colorways, and more. At launch, we’re also supporting the CSTM65 with a host of additional add-ons—including several keyboard weights and switch plates—to tailor your typing experience even further. Combine it all with a top-tier spec sheet, and you have a compact, custom keyboard ready to take center stage on any desk.

Designed to Refine—& Redefine

Understated, sophisticated, and armed with at least one trick up sleeve, the CSTM65 is the culmination of modern keyboard design, with a little disruption thrown in for good measure. That’s courtesy of the decorative top case—and while it’s certainly a disruptor in the keyboard space, it’s anything but disruptive on your desk. It attaches easily, securely, and inconspicuously; and it’s available now in several styles (and two materials), with many more to come. Around the top case, we designed CSTM65 with a refined aesthetic that’s both minimalist and classic. To this end, we choose the space-efficient 65% layout, complete with arrow keys for functionality that doesn’t compromise the compact footprint. We also opted for sleek ABS keycaps with front-facing, laser-etched shine-through legends to complement the community-requested south facing per-key RGB lights. Creating your custom lighting experience—and well as your macros—is both intuitive and in-depth, thanks to an STM32 chipset with QMK, VIA and Vial support.

Uncompromising Typing, From Top to Bottom

The CSTM65 isn’t all looks and electronics. Under the hood—or rather, the top case—you’ll find a host of components designed to deliver an uncompromising typing feel. At its core, that feel starts with the polycarbonate inner case, specially crafted to securely hold the decorative top case and deliver just the right amount of flex for your typing. Inside this case, we’ve added in a custom gasket-mounted system with easily replaceable gasket pegs so you can easily switch pegs when changing plates. We’ve also installed a full array of foam—including PORON plate foam and case foam, IXPE switch foam, and a special silicone patch that fits out the bottom case and acts as a bottom gasket for the keyboard. Throw in the hot-swappable PCBA with south-facing LEDs for an enthusiast-preferred configuration—plus a flexible polycarbonate plate and solid aluminum case weight—and you’ve got an exceptional typing experience, with plenty of room for customization. Check out our selection of interchangeable CSTM65 plates and case weights to get yours just right.

Question
Be interesting to understand the design thinking on this... It seems that this kind of layout doesn't make much sense for people who need the tilde ~ and the back tick ` in their work (like C, Java, JavaScript etc programmers; or people who write in languages like French, Spanish, Italian etc that need a tilde or back tick for composing characters like ñ or è) though there's probably a way to get at that through some kind of function key... ¿? On the Tokyo60 layout, the backspace is where the \| key is on this layout and in place of the backspace there are two keys - the \| and the `~ respectively, which would make more sense to me.

Usually in the 65% layout the backtick(`) is on the FN layer and the tilde(~) is simply the [shift] of that same key. So you would press FN-ESC for backtick(`) and FN-SHIFT-ESC for tilde(~). As...Read More

Question
I read the specs/details but it doesn’t seem to mention the colour of the top case, nor does it list a switch plate or base weight. Does it mean the switch plate and base weight are not provided with this product and must be purchased separately? What colour top case ships with this product?
