I am very curious about these at $99. I want to know if these meet the following requirements:
  • Large soundstage? I am not too worried about imaging as i don't play competitive FPS, but I want a big, wide soundstage that's engulfing and surrounding.
  • Comfort. Are they comfortable for 3-4 hour sessions?
  • Power? Do these require power to perform? Will my LG C9 OLED TV's headphone power it enough? If not, which good but sub $100 dac/amp is recommended?
  • How do they compare to the Audeze Mobius? I already have them but I want something open-back, with a wide soundstage and more comfortable (Mobius is terribly uncomfortable even after stretching them).
I hope to get some answers before the discount is removed! Appreciate any help!

Are the pads the same quality as on the 4xx?

Thanks for your feedback. One more question: Any recommendations for a pair of closed back headphones that could take advantage of my DAC? I currently have the HD 380 Pro and the HD 598 Cs. I was considering getting a balanced modded pair of 250 ohm 770s, but I'm open to other ideas as well.

afk.or.feedIf you use EQ, the Neumann NDH20 seems hard to beat. If not, the AKG K371 should provide a more generally accepted sound signature, if you can look past its quality control/build and design issues. If you like vocals, I think the JVC HA-MX100V would serve you well

Alright, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve touched the budget-tier HIFIMAN stuff. I reviewed the HE-350 and the HE-35X. And at only $129, we’re finally getting a planar magnetic. Just submitted an order. @T.Fernandez does this mean the HE-35X is being discontinued?

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I reviewed the HE-35X for Drop, so I know it’s a dynamic driver. I was expressing my excitement for a budget planar when I said “at only $129, we’re finally getting a planar magnetic”—referring to the HE-X4, since they’ve not had Planar Magentic headphones sell at this price (to my knowledge).

XephyrothI was referring to your 35x being discontinued in lieu of a planar. No comparison.

Please don't dismiss the HD6XX just yet. If you like a warm laidback sound that still sounds fun, the HD6XX is a great headphone. It depends on the kind of sound signature you're looking for.

danny87Thats the thing, I'm looking for, let's not say clinical sound, but at least with high frequencies and not muddy, I mean, if I'm listening to rock or metal high res sources, I don't want to be missing on the mid and top frequencies, I think I can do this with hd600 or he-x4

This should be an excellent value I just wish it was 35 ohms like the he 4XX and had the longer and bigger adjustments like the 5xx only the major complaint that would love to see those being addressed especially in the adjustments department for a big head dudes and high impedance lovers and an optional upgrade or version that has oxidized silver like color of the 4xx and the size and length of the yolks and adjustments of the five 5XX for longer and bigger but has the -400i 2020 headband style for those who don't find this headband comfortable or just make the padding way way way thicker and maybe stop using a panel Gap connector make it flush out so all connectors fit and you don't need skinny ones cuz maybe I like to use big thick chunky connectors which I do and I know it

Not trying to win anything here but you’re also going back and forth so much I don’t even get what you’re trying to say here. and since you feel so strongly about whatever you’re saying, you must have some peer reviewed factual basis other than just your opinion and your conjecture... right?

reiszrieI haven't gone back and forth on anything. If you actually took the time to read what I said instead of reading what you want to read, you'd see that. If you want peer reviewed journals on how the vibrations in the inner ear work, go look it up yourself. If you can't understand that each ear delivers a single auditory signal to the brain and that reproducing the vibrations that are responsible for that signal into each ear would produce an equivalent outcome, I can't help you. By your own argument, the human ear, effectively being a pair of stereo microphones, could not pick up the full effect of surround sound lmfao.

Undecided between the 4xx and the x4, how thin is the bass on the x4 I like at least sub bass and the x4 look like they roll off quite steeply. People are raving about the 400SE and the x4 sound extremely similar apparently. Just wondering how much is hype train and if the slightly more expensive 4xx are worth the extra. I like all sorts of music, I also have a Sennheiser 6xx and a Phillips 9600 as my other open back headphones. I am very in terested in the Sundara but Undecided against a couple of other HP'S. Which do you think would better represent the tuning etc of the Sundara but with enough sub bass to make occasional listening to EDM or Urban enjoyable. I have other HP's like my Mobius if I want a lot of sub bass.

Do you think the Dekoni Elite Hybrids being sold here would produce similar results as the Susvara pads you're talking about? The Fenestrated ones are sold out unfortunately. https://drop.com/buy/dekoni-premium-ear-pads-for-hifiman-susvara-and-he-series-headphones?defaultSelectionIds=951769
(Edited)
cdeniThat is unfortunate. The logical explanation is that the Fenestrated pads (for multiple Dekoni models) are sold out because they're the best, and Drop can't keep them in stock. The Hybrid pads will not produce the same results - or even similar results - because the outer material of the pads is sold, not perforated. With Hybrid Pads, the sound would be warmer, with limited soundstage. If you're serious about the sound with you X4 (or any round-model HIFIMAN headphone), I recommend getting perforated real leather earpads.

I had a set of HE-400 from like 2011 and those were phenomenal. The little round plastic piece that connects the cup hanger to the headband broke in 2018, otherwise I'd still be using them. I suspect this headphone will have similar excellent quality.

I'm not an expert in manufacturing planars. The magnet quality, for one, could be a factor. Old Hifimans had that tactility and dynamics that modern ones don't. I'm not talking about slam only. Not even the HE1000.

Hi everybody, My HE-X4 arrived just yesterday, in Italy with FedEx. Everything good, but when I opened the package I found the scenario below, close to the jack plugs there are some scratches! I think I can figure it out because the ear cups have been damaged, I think they rub on the inside case that's not in leather or cloth, but in plastic. It was bad news for me, take into account that the solution it's very simple, it's possible to add just two gum pads where the ear cups touch the plastic case to avoid this problem and everything would be shipped securely. Of course, I have to share this with HIFIMAN, because our headphones traveling for miles and it's granted that they have to be safe.
