I’m a pretty big supporter of Echobox as I helped crowdfund their initial Finders. However, what’s with describing absolutely no technical specs on these? I’m sorry, but that’s approaching Beats/Bose level smoke & mirrors bullish!t.
amdee1979Not sure why they would leave that out:
  • Driver: 9.2mm PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) dynamic
  • Frequency Response: 5Hz – 60kHz
  • Sensitivity: 96dB/mW
  • Impedance: 22ohm
  • THD: <1%
  • Microphone Sensitivity: -42 +/- 3dB

amdee1979It seems everything from this company lately has been smoke, mirrors, outdated/bad products and discount campaigns. Makes me wary, very wary.

Sebastian1989Their website has been up to/over 35% off for months, they are still selling that weird flask thing with super bad reviews and marshmallow Android, their emails have been weird...just all around something seems very off with the company when compared with the past. I used to be a fan, but now I am mostly just embarrassed for them. Sad stuff.
TheContraptionistThank you for sharing, @TheContraptionist

omegaohmOh yeah the Echobox explorer. Granted it was disappointing when it released but that's mainly due to it being delayed so long that it can no longer compete against newer daps in terms of sound. Back when the idea was conceived it was on par with daps of its time. But everyone else has moved forward. As for the discounts I take it as them permanently reducing the retail price if their products. Frankly I don't mind because the finder is still on par with new iems even at its original price of 200+ dollars. Now that it's sub 100, its great value. I have yet to try the N1 out yet.

Sebastian1989I would have to agree, sounds like you are spot on. I've tried both the n1 and the x1. For under $50, I suppose the x1 isn't a terrible purchase... BUT I wouldnt buy one due to all the sketch stuff going on right now with the company. Same thought on the n1, except I think it's overpriced even at the discount. Any time I see a company blow out their entire product line on discount it's a major red flag.

omegaohmDo you happen to have the X1 and the N1 right now? I equalised my X1 to tweak the sound a bit and frankly I like the equalised sound much more compared to its stock sound (after burn-in of course) . I didn't join the recent N1 drop as I'm not sure if it will be an upgrade over my equalised X1. After all, the N1 is just a retuned X1 with a different housing. It would be awesome if you could provide some insight. 🙂

JoshThomasThanks but I trust dedicated audio reviewers more than mainstream reviewers as I find that most if not all mainstream tech reviewers can't accurately describe sound due to their lack of accurate terminology when it comes to describing sound. B9Scrambler (The Contraptionist) has written a review of the N1 in case anybody wants to read a proper review https://thecontraptionist.blog/2018/08/06/echobox-nomad-home-at-last/
Sebastian1989Thanks for dropping a link. AudioFool also wrote some good coverage of them if you want another non-mainstream alternative: https://audiofool.reviews/2018/10/08/echobox_nomad_n1a/ His review is of my sample so you get two takes on the exact same iem, and his scoring system (something I refuse to add to my site) is particularly stringent which I know some of you will appreciate.
